Welcome to the RhettandLinKommunity!

Founded by Rhett & Link in 2009, the RhettandLinKommunity originally served as an interactive website where Mythical Beasts could engage with one another and Rhett & Link themselves. Kommunity members were an integral part of the early development and success of Rhett & Link’s brand, including coining the term “Mythical Beasts” for Rhett & Link fans and creating the RandLer mascot that is now used by Mythical Entertainment. This website contains a great deal of history, some of which we lay out for you below. You can also explore the rest of the website using the menu bar at the top of the page, and visit Rhett & Link's personal profile pages.

In 2015, Rhett & Link handed the keys of the Kommunity website to the fans themselves, with the website being managed by a small group of volunteer moderators. Since then, the Kommunity has expanded to social media with popular pages on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. With these platforms, the Kommunity remains dedicated to keeping Mythical Beasts informed and engaged in support of Mythical Entertainment.

Major Kommunity Contributions

The Kommunity produced major founding contributions that continue to affect the Mythical fandom at large. Learn more about them here.

Coining the Term “Mythical Beasts”: When a member wanted to know what the fans should call themselves, it kick-started a discussion and call to action to figure out a name. As “Mythical Beasts” and “RandLers” emerged as the top 2, Rhett intervened in favor of “Mythical Beasts,” leading to the final vote and decision.
- Following this decision, members were then encouraged to make up their own, personalized Mythical Beast names for use on the Kommunity website.
Creating the RandLer: The RandLer instead became the mascot of the RhettandLinKommunity (and, much later, the logo for Mythical Entertainment). Kommunity members were asked to submit designs for this new creature, and Evelina Waara’s design was selected.
Timing Submissions for SuperNote 2010 & 2012: Kommunity members volunteered as part of the SuperSquad to accurately time each SuperNote submission and record official times for these competitions. Due to the SuperSquad’s efforts on these huge undertakings, SuperNote ran smoothly and successfully.
Helping Design the First Mythical Shoes: Rhett & Link wanted to create shoes for the Mythical Beasts, designed by the Mythical Beasts, and asked Kommunity members to provide their comments and suggestions. After a series of prompts and discussions, this Kommunity feedback led to the original set of Mythical Shoes.
Naming Belvedere, the GMM Cockatrice: In a continuation of having the Kommunity name mascots, Rhett & Link asked members to come up with and vote on a name for the official GMM cockatrice, which was then announced on GMM.
Creating the Mythical Handshake: After discussing fistbumps vs. handshakes on GMM, Rhett & Link asked the Kommunity to come up with their own mythical greeting. Rhett & Link then selected the handshake created by Kevin (Uniseal) and announced it on GMM.

Kommunity Projects & Events

Referred to as Kommunity Building Exercises (KBEs), group activities and projects on the website were designed to get feedback from fans or simply have fun participating in a project.

Project Lionel: As college students, Rhett & Link used a couch in their dorm room as an opportunity to get as many people as possible to recreate Lionel Richie’s iconic pose. They initiated this KBE to keep the project going amongst their fans, and they even currently get guests of GMM to recreate it.
Winning Public Votes for Rhett & Link: The Kommunity has effectively led efforts to cast votes and win public competitions in support of Rhett & Link, such as mobilizing through the night in order for Rhett & Link’s “T-Shirt War” to reach the top spot in the CBC’s List of Laughs 2010, as well as being recognized by the Webby Awards for assisting Rhett & Link’s 2016 People’s Voice win for Online Film & Video - Web Personality.
Bringing “Gutless Wonders” to Life: Kommunity members worked together to surprise Rhett & Link with two videos based on the original “Gutless Wonders” script: a live-action recreation and an animated musical. Rhett & Link joined hundreds of members in the Kommunity chatroom for the live premiere of these videos and posted a thank-you video afterward.
Worldwide Mythicon Meetups: From 2013 to 2017, Kommunity members volunteered to host local meetups around the world on a single day, in a series of events called Mythicon. Each host was responsible for picking a meetup spot, gathering participants, and creating activities and discussions based on Rhett & Link. Rhett & Link helped get the word out for 2013’s events and even made a surprise appearance at the California-based Mythicon meetup that year.
Kommunity-Sponsored Giveaways: To mark select special occasions, the Kommunity has sponsored giveaways for commemorative items and live show tickets. After initiating a giveaway of GMM Episode 1000 commemorative coins, Mythical Beasts also donated additional money to increase the number of coins from 5 to 18. Similarly, when the Kommunity announced a reimbursement/giveaway for Rhett & Link Live tickets, Mythical Beasts donated more money to increase the number of winners from 4 to 13. The Kommunity then also hosted a giveaway of commemorative GMM Episode 2000 coins, originally putting up 4 and increasing the total to 12 after receiving additional MB backing.
Mythical, USA: When Rhett & Link revealed they had set up 1 GMM billboard in each state of the US, Mythical Beasts worked together to identify and record the location of each advertisement.
