I had honestly never heard of putting peanuts in bottles of Coke (despite growing up in the South), but as Google verified for me, it's a thing:

YES INDEED . . . goes together like RC and Moon Pies!

And you know it's the thing to do is Coca~Cola has multiple pages on its corporate site devoted to the subject.

Only a word of warning for the uninitiated . . . it's gotta be in a glass bottle and icy cold for the true experience . . . and bonus points if you can locate Mexican Coke with real sugar (instead of corn sweetener) which are always available in 1 liter glass bottles.

I might have to actually try it one day!

I don't get it...why they do that? Do the peanuts taste better?

Salt and coke are a great combination anyway, I use to immerse crisps in the coke and they are delicious.

It seems that it's for a similar reason you'd use crisps/potato chips -- for the sweet and salty flavor combination. The link Gumbo provided has a little speculation on the history of the practice, including why people started to do it.

Try it, you'll like it!

I hadn't heard of it either. Instead of Google, I asked my dad if he had heard of it, haha. He verified it for me, though he himself has never tried it (nor wanted to).

My oh my, Link was certainly excitable today for his birthday episode (i.e. the booty shake/slap dance, complete with wheel bumpings and high-pitched "Ah!" exclamations). I think those Mini Links from the beginning really got him pumped up.

I also loved how Rhett slipped back into his natural southern accent when going on his trip down memory lane. Here's to more stories like that!
