New Year... New ______

Ah, New Year's Eve*... time for obsessive toasts, resolutions that we promise we'll do this time, and, of course, who could do without the cheesy jokes? "I don't think I'll have time until next year!" or, on January the 1st, "Oh, so sorry! I haven't seen you guys since last year."

Every year we laugh for some reason.

It's a funny thing--tradition, I mean. My family does this thing that's popular in México and other Latin American countries where we almost choke on grapes. Makes for some interesting memories. Every year we almost fail and have someone with a red face and a coughing fit, but every year we do it.

Then there's New Year's Resolutions**. We make promises that we hope to everything we'll follow. We swear we'll become better people. Do we?

I guess everything has a point. New Year, new start, new memories. I can't exactly tell you how I've changed this past year, but I know I have. Am I better? Maybe. Am I healthier? Maybe. Am I kinder to those around me? Perhaps. But there's one thing I do know. I'm happy. I have no regrets, and I'm going into 2012 hoping it'll be even more awesome than this year. Because it will be, it has to be.

Happy New Year's, everyone. You mean a whole lot to me.

Even with all of the trials and hardships, I can say, without a doubt, this has been the best year of my life. I love you all.

This year, for me, has been both tough and wonderful. I've had plenty of challenges this year, but I don't let it keep me from enjoying life. I've gotten through them, with God, of course, and I'm happy. I still have my own obstacles, but I intend to overcome them. Along with that, I've also made countless memories this year. I can't even begin to describe how great it's been with all my family and friends. So, I'm looking forward to what next year will bring. I hope you, as well as everyone else, had just as good a year as I did. And with that, I say, Happy New Year!
