Nahum
1:5 The mountains quake before Him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before Him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
An overwhelming tone of the chapter so far has been YHWH's sovereignty and power over what He created. All creation from the trees to the storms is in submission to its Creator. How humbling it is to realize your place in YHWH's awesome plan. It's obvious that this passage was written as classic Hebrew poetry, and it uses some figurative language. But, mighty, tall, immovable mountains QUAKE (an image of them falling face down or bowing) before YHWH their Creator! How vain, prideful and arrogant am I to not revere His great name and power! I should be consumed by a godly fear, awestruck, stricken with sheer submission in the presence of my holy Creator.
