Christianity is not a theory or speculation, but a life; not a philosophy of life, but a living presence.

Exodus 14:14

"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

Remember this in all things...relax, find comfort in knowing He is taking care of what you need...

And with that, It says that ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE through Christ who strengthens me, so I would say that, yes, God wont give us what we can't handle, is PARTLY true. Though it is never cited exactly in that way in scripture. God wont make a failure's plan, just saying.

On the note of God not giving us more than we can handle:
I believe that the Holy Spirit was given to help us, supernaturally, through whatever, and He is the mediator of things. God doesn't give you things that you cannot handle without God's assistance.
References: Philippians 4:13
And I can't remember the other verse, I believe it's in 1 Corinthians 12:11
Which says:

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
and another verse in 1st Corinthians.

I understand what you mean.
It bugs me too.
Those sayings become adopted to "Church Tradition"
like many things, such as Jesus fighting Satan for the key to Hell(Which never happened, because the metaphorical key was not owed).
I believe we were instructed not to add to God's word, but people do, and then make stupid denominations out of a bunch of baloney.

@Phillip -- Cate and I are part of a good Church//group of people that get together. I think it's a good place to be (;

Thanks for these verses yet none say God will not give us more then we can handle. People keep quoting this and have no scripture to back it up. Just like God helps those who help them selves. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. None of these exist. It's all opinions.

I've been struggling with people adding to God's Word lately. I am not a legalistic Christian Just a Bibleist (new word) ;-)

Just to let other members know, there are great online Bible resources like BibleGateway.com, and Blue Letter Bible, that allow you to look up Scripture online, have quick look up applications for key words in verses, and also can steer you to teaching commentaries that can expand and explain books and verses. I especially like Ray Stedman and Chuck Smith.

Are you thinking about 1 Cor. 10:13 related to not being tempted beyond what we can bear? Or may the concept of God's all sufficient grace as expressed in 2 Cor 12:9-10?

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I was thinking you were prompting another Bible quiz question.

Several verses address this. The most quoted are: Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" and 1 Cor. 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." Ephesians 3:20-21 "Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen" Ephesians 6:10-20 gives info on what we can do as a part of strengthening ourselves in Him. 1 John 4:4 "You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."

Philip or anyone who reads this. Can you tell me where in Scripture does it say God will not give us more then we can handle? I can't find it anywhere. I keep hearing "Christians" quote this.
