Okay, it's 4 a.m. here so sorry if this all sounds crazy but I wanted to mention this. I was thinking about Rhett's "right" answer, and assuming the teleporting we're all talking about is the usual breakdown of your atoms and reassembly of your atoms in another spot.. then simulating flying would be like watching it through a flip book or a video with a terrible frame rate. Assuming your atoms break down, then you'll be seeing nothing for at least .01 seconds, which would be constant and just as often as you actually seeing anything. So not only would this be terribly annoying and dangerous, but couldn't this also cause a seizures in some people? Of course your body wouldn't be there to "seize" but I would think there could be a chance of it. Just something I wanted to mention and see what everyone thought.. To me, flying is still the way to go, as simulated flying would be you together and you in pieces a couple thousand times in a second and would really mess up your eyesight and be hazardous to your health.
Sidenote: You also couldn't feel the wind as you flew, as you wouldn't be moving, just appearing. Taking away a lot of the flying experience, like being on a roller coaster without feeling wind and velocity against you.
Point taken. Here's how I envision the process. I think the default method would be to teleport to a certain point, then free fall at an angle. Of course, this would only happen in the open sky and would be difficult in tighter spaces or near the ground, where I would use the "interpolated teleportation method" that I described on the kast. I was assuming a perfectly fluid disassembly and reassembly, though, which would be much smoother and less dangerous than what you described. In my theory, the teleportation happens so quickly as it's almost unconscious. So, it's more of a mathematical interpretation of teleportation, rather than teleporting in a "traditional", Star Trek sense.
But I'd have to say that the access feature of teleportation, as well as the ability to instantly remove yourself from situations, sends teleportation over the top. I think you could actually change the course of world events significantly if you could teleport. If you could fly, you'd just be a really lucky, really cool, vulnerable super hero.

I've been mulling it over for the last week, and I think I'll have to agree with Rhett. Teleportation is the best option, literally just for the access option. If you've seen the movie Jumper then you have to go for teleportation.
I can see your point about taking a girl flying with you Parker, but to refer to the television program Heroes, when Nathan Petrelli takes people flying with him, they end up feeling sick!! Plus Nathan went and got himself killed by Sylar, whereas Hiro (who I know controls the space time continuum, but come on you can count it as teleporting) knacked Sylar in series one!!
This was only ever an arguement because it was decided that one of the extra abilities of flying would be you weren't affected by things in the environment (eg hitting cables, planes, birds, superman). Flying wouldnt have had a cat in hell's chance of even being considered as anything close to teleporting. Even with added abilities flying has been trumped by the access card.
