I have two!

When I was around ten I went hiking with my family on a one mile hike that we would do every year. Since I was a little older my parents didn't watch me as closely as they did when I was younger and I come from a big family so it's easier to slip out of the way without out anyone noticing. I went on the ledge of an are with a 25 foot drop and huge rocks and rapids below (also I could not swim at this point) I was trying to take a picture of the water so I got really close to the edge but It had just rained (WA st, typical) and the edge was soft and it broke beneath my foot I screamed and grabbed an exposed tree root while falling and pressed myself against the edge that was still there. Hearing this my father came and saw and found a large branch to hand to me. I grabbed it (tentatively) and he pulled me out. I was shaking for days.

The next one happened two months ago While I was in Ghana Africa. If you've ever been to an undeveloped or a developing country and drove, you may have realized how awful the driving is because laws are not enforced. After a week of being there I mellowed out to the crazy traffic and awful roads, but because of the humid hot weather I developed really bad motion sickness from sitting in the back of our van so I moved u p front with our Ghanaian driver Frank. It was night and we had been driving for two hours and I fell asleep. All of a sudden I open my eyes to ridiculously bright head lights coming furiously at us at 120 kph (that's how fast our car AND at least the other car was going) about 20 feet away. when there was only about 2 feet of distances between both of our cars we narrowly get back into the other lane almost hitting a car that was on our right (that was the reason frank was in the left lane he was passing another car, that had been speeding up keeping us in the left lane longer than anticipated) I was so terrified I couldn't move for about thirty seconds after the incident  I was frozen with the most horrified look on my face. Frank looked over at me, and chuckled. Like nothing happened. I didn't sleep the rest of the was home.

NOW i want to read YOUR STORIES! I want someone to top mine ;D Maybe Rhett and link will talk about theirs on GMM? (have they already?)

This, too, is a hiking story, but I was in the woods. I think I was 10 years old, and I was at an over-night camp. I was staying for one night (just this special thing; long story) and my group of friends and their dads (only dads and daughters here) decided to hike one of the trails in the woods. Of course, we wanted to hike the trail called "Ghost Cabin", which at the end led to an eerie, abandoned cabin. Keep in mind, it had stormed the night before. We hiked and hiked, and followed the signs until we got very close to the cabin, where we found a small stream that had swelled from the storm. I don't know how the people at this camp thought we were going to get across, considering there was no bridge or anything, but there was a log. So, the dads teamed up and moved the log so we could walk across. After that, we reached the cabin, but only found a chimney. So, we got over the lameness of this, and began to make our way back. We still stood in the clearing where the "cabin" was, and I was just about to get back on the trail when all of the dads stopped. I could see their eyes widen, and I knew what they were so frightened of, because I heard it too. It was a CREEEEAAAAAKKK!!! Two of the dads grabbed the two girls in front of them (me and my friend) by the back of the shirt, just in time to not be killed by a falling tree, that landed with the loudest noise I've ever heard. The tree must have been about four feet around, and very tall. It just barely missed the chimney.

We had to climb back over the tree, and go back to camp. There were dozens of groups of obnoxious boy scouts there as well, and apparently they thought it was a good idea to let kids march through the woods holding torches, and one dropped theirs and caught the grass on fire. Nothing else happened, but that scared me quite a bit too, but not as much as the tree.

I definitely haven't topped yours, but I still have arborphobia (fear of trees, but mildly. I never get TOO close...)

Oh my gosh I would have freaked out! thats terrifying. At the place where I almost fell into the rapids (Its called Stair Case and its in Washington st) theres a REALLY wide part of the river like 100 feet that we had to cross that would flood because the bridge had been out for years. I remember my dad having to carry me a croos because I was soo little the water would knock me down hahah.

Thanks for sharing your story!! I'm glad you were not hit by a giant freaky tree!

I have two:

My grandad used to own an old chicken house that he used as a shop for storage and other things. When I was about five, I was standing outside one end of the shop(It is around 50-70 feet from the road). A red pickup suddenly stopped on the road, and a hispanic man jumped out. He started walking towards me, and I didn't run, because I thought it might be one of my grandad's clients. My grandad suddenly came out of the shop and, without saying a word, put his hand on my shoulder, and stared at the guy(my grandad looked pretty intimidating!) The hispanic man ran back to his car, and drove away, far past the speed limit.

The other story happened at the same place, but last year, when I was about 11. I was in my grandparent's house, reading. My granddad was down at the shop, trying to repair some lawnmower. I heard a huge BANG, and within minutes, grey smoke was spilling over the roof of the house. I got up and woke my physically handicapped grandmom up(SHe has to use a wheel chair). I helped her, then ran out side, where the entire 400 ft chicken house was on fire. There were at least 6 firetrucks, and every one was running around. Now keep in mind, that my grandparents breed boston terriers as a small hobby, so they had a big shelter built for them that was only 50 ft from the inferno. I had to go into the kennels(and some of them were on fire!) and save the dogs. The smoke was black by then, and you could barley see anything. Little bits of hot paper kept falling onto my bare arms and legs. Within an hour, we were in their neighboors yard, watching the firefighters try to contain the blaze(there was no hope stopping it). The people in the ambulance checked me out, and the firefighters kept patting me on the back and telling me thanks for helping get the dogs out. They said I handled the situation extremley well, because I remained completly commposed. I sometimes still have nightmares about that day, and cannot smell smoke without getting flashbacks(corny, right?)

I don't know if that topped your stories, but I thought I might share!

Oh those are scary!

Good job helping your granmother and all those Dogs thats SUPER brave of you! and you were only 11! that's even more awesome!! thanks for sharing your stories :)

Your welcome! I am a "talkative" person on the Kommunity!

Good for you! :) I'm trying to get involved in such hahaha

Well, one day in elementary, maybe 4th grade, I was going over to my next door neighbor's house because she would take me to school in the morning. So I walk over knock on her door and she lets me in. We watched TV for a minute or two, and then her mom told us that we could go ahead and put our stuff in the car because we had a science posterboard that was due that day. So we go outside, keys in hand, and as we open the car door, a guy in an old, gold colored car drives by really slowly. He comes to a near stop in front of her house rolls the window down and pulls out a camera. We both froze, then looked at each other, then ran back in the house and locked the door. I vaguely remember him saying as we left "taking pictures of houses..."

We were clearly scared, and her mom had seen what happened, so we went inside and waited a minute until he left. Then we all ran to the car got in locked the door and started the engine and pulled out. As we drove away I saw him behind us, at the end of the street, still behind us, but her mom drove away fast.

So yup. Definitely Scary. :o

OH MY! that's pretty scary! I woulve called the cops!
