I use my GPS especially when I haven't driven to a particular place a few times before having the confidence to drive without it. I use a Uniden which is separate to my Phablet (Smartphone Tablet aka Samsung Galaxy Note) and is connected to my car via the charger. It's quite reliable. I would not risk using my Phablet as I would need it for making calls in case of emergency. I also have a Map Book of the entire city of Melbourne, Australia which is always handy if technology fails - YEAH!!! :)
I don't have a smartphone or a GPS, just a town map (which I hardly use anymore) and an atlas. I'll copy off directions for out-of-town trips, but that's about it. I like to think I have a good sense of direction and internal navigation. Then again, I also live in Indiana, where everything's on a grid and you can easily take a 2hr trip that uses only 2 roads. :P
COOL!!! :)
It was interesting hearing them talk about physical maps...the other day I was thinking about how it's hard to find anything other than individual city/town maps or atlases; nothing in between is readily available anymore. I have distinct memories of figuring out directions to a friend's house using my parents' state map book, which had a page (or two) for each town (0r two) in the state. (Or it may have been a regional map for part of the state; I don't remember.)
