I live in Florida now, but I'm born and raised in New York. I find there's lots to talk about with this place. Are you a native Floridian or a "transplant?" Prefer North, Central or South? Like the Ocean or the Gulf? Ever had boiled peanuts? What is the deal with those? And, most importantly, "Is Florida a Southern State?"

Is Florida a Southern State?

Naw, it ain't!

Yes, yes it is.

When we decided to move to the South, we set our boundaries of the region we would consider. We decided we'd go no further south than Orlando because Florida stops feeling like the South by then and starts feeling a lot like New York again. So, that would be pointless for us! Up here in the north, the trees are still tall, we still get something resembling a winter (leaves even change color...around Christmas!) and Southern Hospitality is still abundantly available. The drivers are nuts, however! I mean, rednecks in pickup trucks featuring rifle mounts in their rear windows are a whole different breed of nuts than New York City cab drivers! Took a year to get used to that!
As I have lived in FL I have realized, the further north you travel the more southern it becomes!
Born and raised in Florida, I love it here!
I was born and raised in Florida :{D
I'm a "transplant." I came from Kentucky for school and hated it at first, but I've come to love Florida. You form a certain bond with the first place you move when you leave home. I'm in Central FL and I would not want to live any more north or any more south in this state. I'd have to say I like the gulf since that's the side Tampa's on. And once you get to central Florida it is no longer a Southern state in the cultural sense.
I live in Florida :)
I' m a transplant. I've lived everywhere. :)
I've lived here in Orlando for 5 years now. Love the warm weather.

As a southern gentleman born and raised in VA, I can tell you that FL is definitely NOT a southern state.
Yup, I'm a Floridian. Born in St. Petersburg. Tried to move out a couple of times, but you "sand in your shoes" and have to come back. Back to St. Petersburg, in fact. And, "No," it's not a Southern State. Everyone here thinks barbecue is a cookout. (It isn't and really, it's not meat either, but a smoky style of cooking). Our beaches are still oil free. Come on down and enjoy them while you can. When I was a kid, an old black man would sell boiled peanuts at the part and parades. He wore a tux coat and a top hat and would call out "Peanuts, I got'm" He was very cool. Too bad I never liked boiled peanuts.
Born and raised Floridian, North FL please, I'm not really particular to either, and yes I have in fact eaten boiled peanuts. The deal with boiled peanuts is that they're awesome! "Is Florida a Southern State?" Not if you don't think mullets, hunting, boiled peanuts, and heat are Southern. But if you find any of those things "Southern" then yes, we ARE a Southern State.
