I noticed Link that you weren't wearing your characteristic specs in most (if not all?) of the movie? I'm curious why.

I had just gotten my glasses around that time and I wasn't used to wearing them all the time. 2006. I was still thinking I wouldn't need them except when, like, driving at night. Funny.

It's funny, when I went in to the optometrist in 06, it was just 'cause I had the coverage. And to get info about macular degeneration because Lincoln Clause has it... I didn't think I needed glasses.

When Dr. Tony told me I needed em...it was weird...I kinda had an emotional reaction. R-r-re-really? I-I need *gulp* glasses?! It was like a blow to my ego or something...subconsciously. But I quickly embraced it as an opportunity for self expression.

And now you think I look weird without em in the movie, huh?

Everyone who's reading this-- reply and tell me how you found out you needed glasses. And what was your initial emotional response?
I know I was in elementary when I found out I needed classes I am thinking it was around 4th grade. Not sure my initial reaction but I know they annoyed me for a while. I wore them all through elementary but then in the 7th grade my moms insurance changed and I had to go to sears optical for my glasses. And let just say they didn't have many options for men or boys. But luckly for me they mentioned contacts and I hopped right on that and wore them until after I graduated from high school. But after a while I started getting some pretty bad headaches when I was reading so I went back to the eye doctor and decided to give glasses a try again. Now everyone tells me I am not myself without them. Funny how that works.

I found out I needed glasses back in sixth grade. Poor eyesight runs in my family so it was kind of destined but initially I didn't freak out because I didn't think it was a big deal but the names started and I got all upset but now it's "Ok I wear glasses, no big deal". And I think you look nice with glasses, Link.
I wore one contact for a while, like at the end of middle school/first year of high school because only one eye needed it. And then it got to be too much of a hassle, so I stopped. (It was kind of cool... my optometrist gave me expired contacts that were green so I could wear them in the other eye, and I would have one blue and one green eye.)

But eventually I realized I needed something, because the other eye went funny, too, and I got glasses after I graduated high school. I don't need them for reading, but I do wear them while driving, especially at night, and in class 'n stuff so I can see the board. I didn't feel awkward at all when I was told I needed them, since I had been prepped by the one-eyed contact. And that didn't feel awkward either.

Yes, you did look weird! Haha... I'm not used to a Link without glasses. I guess you didn't have them on in your earlier videos. But still...
My eyesight got progressively worse, and I was the last one in my family of 7 children to get them (I'm 5th of 7, in case you were wondering). I had gotten used to squinting to see the board in class, but by the beginning of my junior year of high school (late 2003), I finally gave in and asked to go see an optometrist. I only wore them occasionally during the day in the beginning, but then just kept them in my backpack to use during class when I needed them (you see, I liked to wear sunglasses as a headband at all times... and still do a few times a week to this day... and wearing glasses on your face and sunglasses on your head at the same time just looks stupid). I had even learned to recognize people from a distance by the way they walked and/or the clothes they wore. Really, but I mean, a distance of over like, 15 feet. I went on like that until the end of my junior year of college (May 2008) when I got contacts. I wore them almost exclusively for the next year, then got new glasses this past spring break, and I'll wear them every so often, but I'm a contacts girl. And now it's only partly because I like to wear my sunglasses as a headband... I'm just used to the way my face looks without them.

I gotta say, though, when I actually would wear my glasses in the beginning it weirded me out like crazy to try to eat while wearing glasses.
Thanks Link! That also answers why your specs aren't in the R&L logo (tho you'd be tied to those frames for a long time). I was surprised to learn you've only been wearing glasses for like 3 years! You're such a natural! You picked the right frames, for sure, they really compliment your face (hair, eyebrows, etc).

I would also have an emotional response if I was told I needed glasses. That would be hard to deal with, but I guess I'd deal with it like everyone else, and get used to it, and I don't like the idea of contacts.

Anyway Link, your specs are really a big part of your image now, and you rock it!

My reaction when I got glasses? I don't remember having an emotional reaction, but that's probably because it was back in fourth grade, which (since I'm thinking about it now) was approximately 1/4 of a century ago. Crap, I'm getting old. All I really remember is that everything looked too sharp and hard-edged when I first started wearing them, which probably means that I needed them for a while before anyone realized I did. I had grown to cherish the fuzziness of the world I lived in...

I also remember picking out the frames which I thought were cool, but in retrospect were the ugliest things ever. I commend you on your ability to pick out good glasses from the get-go, and I'm not just saying that 'cos our specs are similar. :D
Fifth grade. Like a typical kid, I kind of thought it was cool, and picked out what I believed to be the 'perfect' pair of huge, pink frames. In hindsight, they were just NOT COOL. Perhaps that's why I grew to hate weraring glasses... that and always forgetting where I'd left them, then often sitting on them. By tenth grade, I had a job and enough cash flow to get contacts. Been a contact wearer for over a decade. Now, I love my glasses 1) on a lazy day, 2) as jewelry for my face, or 3) when I want to look studious.
I was 3 years old - I was more petrified of getting my eyes dilated than anything else!
Contacts, on the other hand, were traumatic. I was 13, and super excited to rid myself of my bulky glasses.
Anyone who has contacts can most likely relate to the 'contact-not-in-your-eye-but-you-think-it-is' scenario. :shudder:

Link - I've always been jealous of your ability to wear black frames and look good - I end up looking ridiculous!
I was about 8, and i couldn't see the clock from the end of the hall, so i asked my mom, and she freaked out. She took me to the eye doctor, and it was so scary with all the drops and stuff, but finally i got my glasses. I was pretty proud of them, and liked them a lot, because they were "Candy" brand w/ a sweet case, and they were blue. First thing i did? Walked into a steamy bathroom and freaked out cause i couldn't see!!!
I think it was the beginning of first grade when I got my first pair of glasses. My mom took me for a routine check-up and they discovered I needed them. I was fine when they told me I had to have glasses, but when they pulled out these thick glass, ugly frame glasses for me, I freaked out. Even a kid knows what doesn't look good! ;) I tried contacts in middle school, but I have this issue where I can't stand anything coming close to my eye...which makes it extremely difficult to put in contacts. So, I have stuck with glasses.

Link, I am extremely jealous that you can wear black glasses and pull it off! I have never been able to look good in them, despite my best efforts.
Thanks for all the replies! I'm enjoying reading them and I feel much better now. :) You bunch of four eyes-ers!
