Coming Soon: IFC Renews The Onion News Network Plus So Much More

By Melissa Locker on 03/23/2011

Pardon me. We have some very exciting news and need everyone making that drumrolling sound on the table with pencils, pens, and hands and whatnot. All set? Okay, commence drumroll please. IFC is pleased to announce that we have renewed the Onion News Network for a second season. Or in the words of Brooke Alvarez, "The Onion News Network has allowed IFC to broadcast our programming for a second season. You're welcome, huddled masses." However you spin it, we are excited to have the best (only?) news network on cable on our air for another season. Now to borrow a line from the best late night infomercials, but wait, there's more!

In addition, IFC has green lit four new original series: "Commercial Kings" from Reveille, "Young, Broke & Beautiful" produced by 44 Pictures, "Whisker Wars" produced by Thom Beers' Original Productions, and "Bullet in the Face," created and written by Alan Spencer. But don't order yet, because for a limited time we are willing to double that offer and give you two Ginzu knives two more original series currently in development. We are working on an untitled variety show hosted by Comedy Death-Ray's Scott Aukerman and "Pointless" created by Ethan Berlin and Eric Bryant, which came to IFC through the New York Television Festival.

What are these brilliant new shows we will soon be offering? Well they won't whiten your whites or organize your closet, but we are pretty sure these shows will (sham) wow you.

Commercial Kings premieres Friday, June 24th at 10 p.m. Starring filmmakers and comedy duo Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, this docu-comedy series follows the pair as they travel across America, developing and producing commercials for local businesses. The show's concept is based on Rhett and Link's popular website, www.ilovelocalcommercials.com, which has made the duo an internet sensation with over 80 million views on YouTube.

Commercial Kings

Starring filmmakers and comedy duo Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, this docu-comedy series follows the pair as they travel across America, developing and producing commercials for local businesses.  The show’s concept is based on Rhett and Link’s popular website, www.ilovelocalcommercials.com, which has helped make the duo an internet sensation with over 80 million views on YouTube.

Throughout the season, Rhett and Link create commercials that showcase local residents and businesses including Ole Man Heavy Hill’s Garbage Service, a one-man weekly trash removal company, and Bury Me Naturally, a green burial service which touts natural decomposition in only four months as the businesses major perk.

Produced by Reveille. Executive Producers for Reveille are Howard T. Owens, Todd Cohen, Heather Schuster, Rhett McLaughlin, Link Neal, Joke Fincoen and Biagio Messina.  Paul Cockerill is a producer for the series.  Executive producers for IFC are:  Debbie DeMontreux, Christine Lubrano, Jennifer Caserta and Evan Shapiro.

My first personal spotting of a "Commercial Kings" advertisement on IFC (DirecTV channel 559) . . . are R&L actually wearing garbage bags . . . and a chicken suit?

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot wait!!!  But, since it seems the first commercials will feature garbage removal and decomposing corpses, maybe I should say I am waiting with bated breath?
I'm so excited!! I cannot wait!!
I totally knew it, but I'm still totally excited!!
It's about time that your talent has been recognized.  I still think your music videos and skits are the best.  They should be giving you a comedy show for those!  Perhaps you can get them to feature a few of those each week.  I love them all.  You guys need to get SNL to put one of your videos up on the national stage every week.  Good luck in L.A.  We will miss you here in NC.  Stay humble and remember Ms. Locklear.  Don't let CA get to your heads.
it needs to come out sooner and in Australia!

Just sayin, they kind of let the cat out of the bag...a few times. First, on GMCL 3, they said they sent in a TV Pilot of IFC...and they might get a tv show. *first clue* After forgeting this mention, many weeks later, I checked on Rhett's Twitter account...guess who sent a link saying Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal were starting a TV show called Commercial Kings? Just thought I'd mention it....

Did they give us these clues on purpose? Or did they not realize they said/posted these things?

Where can I get IFC?

Please check here for your local listings.

Rut Ro Shaggy . . . prepare the lawyers for battle!

You would think somebody might have checked the phone book for any pre-existing TV and radio production company with a similar name before deciding on a title for this project, wouldn't you?

They have an impressive "cliental" list . . . I think they even prepared the promo for DeeDee's B-Day Partay a while back.  http://rhettandlink.com/blog/deedeesparty/

Okay, and just to get some mythical beastly opinions... Does it look like, to anyone else, (about when it's saying "This is Link") ... Does it look to anyone else like Link is about to get ... buried alive? O.o
