Wasting food is NOT okay!
This is happening every now and then and it's extremely upsetting. I grew up in a social democratic country and learned to take care of the people around me and be conscious about social injustice, so maybe I'm a little more touchy than the average American, but getting into a tub of perfectly good food, is revolting, decadent and bordering evil. I'm not going to start about children in Africa or Asia, but maybe 20 to 30 minutes drive from the office there's one of the poorest areas in LA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skid_Row,_Los_Angeles
Aren't they ashamed wasting so much food, knowing that poverty like this exists this close by? They learned people, they should know better. I've seen them waste whole loafs of bread, which was upsetting but a tub full of soup, vegetables and meat is on a different level entirely.

They don't always bring it up, but they've occasionally mentioned that they don't just throw away the food they "ruin". While it's not fit for humans to eat, there are still other uses for it, like composting or animal feed. When they sat in the giant cereal bowl, for instance, the cereal waste was donated as horse food.
It still is a bit of a waste, but at least the food gets some use afterward. Perhaps with the money they make off the video, they could afford to buy and donate more food than they wasted to earn that money.

I doubt the studio really wastes much food in comparison to the average Western household, let alone supermarkets and restaurants. At least that celery went to some use instead of sitting wilting in the back of a fridge. I agree food waste is a problem but you've got to look at the bigger picture. Silly Youtube videos are not the major cause of food waste in the West, rather that we have a whole society that's built around buying stuff we don't need and throwing it away.

I did the math and at least by weight, they wasted about as much as the average American in a year, in that video. I had some trouble watching this. Yes, food waste by restaurants and supermarkets is a bigger problem, a lot of it is a lack of infrastructure and poorly worked out food-safety standards, but what they did also set a bad example and at least for me it was really hard to watch. As a (sorry) family show, they also have a certain social responsibility in my opinion. I don't expect them to be perfect but this was a bit extreme.
