Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!
It's about time . . . BRING BACK THE DOPE ZEBRA!!!
Yes!
This episode was not my favourite. It was definitely not my least favourite but I’m still not fond of it. One of the main reasons would have to be the guest Redfoo. In Australia at one time, he was one of the X Factor judges (but that’s not something to really complain about). The main problem I had when he was on the show was that he sang that awful song “Literally I Can’t” which was blatantly sexist and just plain cacophonous and silly (his silliness is incomparable to Rhett & Link’s style of absurdity). Anyway, he was a sexist, egotistical ignoramus before that and I couldn’t/can’t stand his music but I feel slightly obligated to like him as A) he was on GMM, B) the whole joyous fiasco he had with Rhett & Link and the magnificent Dope Zebra was told about again and that made me feel a bit nostalgic and reflective and C) Rhett & Link don’t seem to have a problem with him. However, I’m finding it rather difficult to like him on any level. His idiocy and his innate need to say “baby” and “yeah” just ticks me off. Another thing that I don’t love about this episode is the numeracy skills displayed. I am probably just nitpicking at this point but it has been drilled into me that saying things such as “9.2.5” rather than “9.25” is mathematically incorrect and should always be subjected to chastisement. The constant numeracy mistake was very vexing for me and that drilling from my childhood made my reaction to it worse but this was more of a minor issue for me. A further quibble I have with this is that the dancing made me slightly uncomfortable and reminded me of the almost-intolerable First Date Farts (with the cringing and ostensibly obvious attempts to further the Rhink movement/theory for the sake of the fans). I’m one of those people that can get uncomfortable quite easily (not necessarily by interactions with other people i.e. what happened with people featured in the Backup Plan) so moves like the Dirty Spoon were just awkward for me (Link’s semi-shirtlessness also made me feel slightly uneasy which was odd as I’m usually fine with him going nekkid from the waist-up (or semi-nekkid and wearing an open jacket) and made me cringe. Of course, the Rhink shippers (I do ship RL but not to a large extent) will be all over this dance move but I’ll just think about how much has changed. I’ll ruminate about “the good ol’ days” as one does about someone that they are a huge fan of and I’ll do it the way that makes it a negative endeavour and think something like “I miss it when they lived in North Carolina” or “I wish these new episodes were more akin to the older episodes” or “I missed it when they weren’t as popular” (how dare I desire for them to be less popular and not be themselves!). I hate going into this state but it’s hard to stave off when episodes like this get released. One of the most common thoughts I get while in this state is “they would’ve never done this 5 years ago” or “they would’ve never gone this far in doing this” or something (but I guess it’s kind of true as their friendship has blossomed over the years and GMM has really made it more public and trying (by “trying”, I mean that they are exercising their friendship and doing more “romantic” things more for the sake of entertainment rather than personal benefit and growth (but I hope that they do this more nowadays because of the latter because some episodes make it seem like the former))). This episode was very similar to the Dance Battle episode from Season 7 (I also hate thinking that they’re running out of ideas when they’re really not) but what makes the Dance Battle more favourable than this episode is that Lindsey Stirling is a bona fide YouTuber (she may have not started her career on YouTube but she’s more of a fellow YouTuber to RL than Redfoo ever was/will ever be) plus she was not unlikeable and annoying, the Dance Battle episode had Chunk revealed, the semi-kowtowing/advertising in the DB episode was suitable and done in such a way that you couldn’t tell that it was sort of an advertisement for Lindsey’s tour whereas this episode was reminiscent of the feeling that was expressed in the Smeeling episode with Bill Hader & Amy Schumer and maybe even the What If episode with Daniel Radcliffe (that they were only just there to promote their movies and nothing else but in my opinion, Daniel Radcliffe was much more of a pleasant guest than Bill and Amy (and the promotion of Redfoo’s album was more prominent in the GMMore rather than the actual GMM)) and none of the dance moves in the DB made me feel really awkward and actually made me laugh and smile. But again, my opinion that the Dance Battle was superior to the Dance Off may be another example of my reminiscing and missing older content state.
My attitude towards this particular episode may be influenced by the fact that the day I had before it came out was absolutely miserable and the fact that I strongly dislike Redfoo but regardless of these factors, I still think I would’ve not particularly liked this episode.
I must say to conclude (and I strongly emphasise on this) that I didn’t hate this episode. In fact, I found some portions of it quite entertaining (like Rhett’s dance when he stepped on his glasses but then totally saved it by spinning around, kneeling and making the music end (like his daddy (hehe. Get it?))) and I did smile but for me, the episode as a whole (I’m not including the GMMore as the GMMore was very Redfoo-centric and just meh) just wasn’t - for lack of a better word - “satisfactory” but again, I was in a foul mood before this came out so I was bound to not really enjoy this.
At least I got my daily watch of magnificent internetainment from Rhett & Link and a few sincere smiles in an otherwise horrible day (and a Wednesday no less! - my favourite day!). I wonder if their kids saw this episode...
I write too much...
come on now, Grace, don't hold back . . . tell us how you REALLY feel about it
I thought I did...
I really can't stand Redfoo as a human being and as a singer and this wasn't a particularly enjoyable episode but I don't hate it. How could I possibly hate something as wonderful as GMM?
HOWEVER, I will concede that this was probably one of my least favourite episodes of the season (I DO HAVE a least favourite episode of GMM but that's because of personal reasons that I'm not willing to explain yet (AND I DO NOT HATE THAT EPISODE)). This episode really didn't boost up my spirits. Thankfully, a 3 hour binge watch of other episodes helped get rid of my wallowing in despair and helped me get to sleep
I'd only hate it if it was a Dance Battle with someone that I genuinely hate with every inch of my body and I would physically rip my foot off just to get them to shut up, if it wasn't actually a Dance Battle and it was something like a shopping battle (I don't even know what that would entail but I really detest shopping), if Rhett or Link were in it and the other one wasn't and if it was on another channel that wasn't an affiliate of Rhett & Link's that I also dislike i.e. Sam Pepper's channel (I cannot stand him either. I just want to ship him to Jupiter and leave him there so we wouldn't have to put up with his nonsense).
I think Gumbo was being facetious. ;)
Yeah, ya think? just another of the free services (along with ironic, sarcastic, sardonic, and downright swarmy remarks) which I offer to all Kommunity members.
Serious thoughts and actual expressions of true concern offered at minimal prices.
Oh...
I'll say I knew almost nothing about this guy other than he was in LMFAO, so I was prepared to hate him (I couldn't escape their songs in university) but actually thought he was a good guest - funny, very comfortable and could riff off R&L easily. I thought his bad maths was hilarious. It didn't bother me; this isn't Sesame Street!
In regards to teasing Rhink, I'm comfortable with it as long as they are comfortable with it. I trust (and hope) they wouldn't keep going along with it if they were deeply uncomfortable with the idea. I love it when men can be comfortable with their sexuality.
The cringe was strong with this episode. I had flashbacks to my dad dancing at a family event and nearly didn't make it, but I'm glad I did.
