I use the "always in the same place approach". My bedroom door is fairly close to our front door, and my dresser is right next to the bedroom door, so I keep a little bowl just big enough for my keys on top of my dresser, so whenever I come inside and drop things off in my room, I put them in the little bowl along the way.  In the winter I left my keys in my coat pocket most of the time, though, which was even easier. :P
