You have every right to be! I hope it's a success!! I'll buy a copy, or 16, if ,and when, it gets published. :) (I think that sentence had accessive commas but, oh well.)
Awesome. I've been on those kinds of sites for over 4 years now and although I'll admit that I could be a lot more productive, I don't really like it when people think that I'm another useless teenager that wastes their life on Facebook or whatever. There are some people who just don't get it. They don't understand how people form friendships online. They don't take the "networking" part of social networking seriously. I have gotten to talk to a lot of people that have helped me pursue my graphic design career goal [even though I'm still in high school]. I even got to intern for a website and experiment with music journalism. Social networking doesn't have to be pointless! That's what I wish more people would understand.
Oh that's okay. And you know, you don't need to keep talking to me if you don't want to.
But if you do...what's your opinion on social networking? [Facebook, Twitter, etc.]
A good book about that is Searching For God Knows What by Don Miller, just as a little side note.
Well, I don't consider myself "religious" really. I see religion as this chart and/or checklist that people must follow or they're considered failures, almost. It comes with a lot of pressure to do everything right, and not even because one really wants to, but because they have to. I feel like religion places God [or gods] on some unreachable pedestal where He's looking down on us and telling us how bad we are. That we just have to work a little harder and then we'll be able to get to Him. There's no relationship there.
A relationship is about love, grace, and mercy. It's not about work hard to do good things and deserve God. It's accepting the fact that we can never deserve Him. Therefore, out of love, He accepts us as we are from the start --sinful and broken. We don't have to make ourselves good for Him first. We just have to surrender our sins and HE makes us righteous, through the blood of Jesus. We don't obey His commands out of routine. And although we should fear God and be aware of His power, we shouldn't obey just because we're scared, either. Love is a much greater motivation than fear. That's the essence of sacrifice. So if Jesus sacrificed Himself for us out of love, despite how hard and scary it was for Him, the least we can do to show OUR love is to obey Him. In a relationship, it's not about us getting to God, it's about God getting to us.
Oh okay. Yeah, I've been in the public school system for 12 years, I know how bad it can be. They are not the greatest environments to be in, for sure. I'll admit that I did succumb to peer pressure and the need to conform in middle school, which was definitely a rough time in my life spiritually, but I did get over that. God has definitely increased my wisdom and given me discretion. In case you're curious, the other person I had the conversation with was totally against public schools and demands that all Christian parents take their kids out because sending them to public school is a sin or something. They acted like if being in public school dooms your kid for life. Now I understand where they came from, but I think the whole thing about it's being a "sin" is way too extreme. Public school is tough, but I'm living proof that it's not an automatic spiritual death sentence. For me personally, the hardships I had helped to strengthen and mature in my faith. This in turn equipped me to be able to share Jesus with others and see my school as a mission field.
Hmmm...I see that you're homeschooled and that reminds me of a conversation I sort of had with this person once. What are your thoughts on public school?
Oh yeah I totally understand where you're coming from. You just have to understand that I don't really live in the United States. Haha. Where I live is a little piece of South America. And over there, Santa isn't involved much at all. Actually, most kids receive their gifts on January 6th, which is a holiday in Latin American countries that honors the three wise men/magi. Therefore, here kids don't learn about Santa, so he's not much of a big deal. And as I said, I think commercializing Christmas has also lessened the importance of Santa, because kids are learning who really gets their presents, and they accept it. They've learned to take advantage of this time of year to ask their parents to buy them a bunch of stuff, so they don't really "need" Santa anymore.
