They just talked about this in a GMM recently. Link's name is actually Charles Lincoln Neal III, and he was named that to keep with the tradition. Rhett's name is really Rhett; he was so named because his dad was watching football and heard the name, proclaiming that it was a good name for a son.

Rhett and link are their real names. Yes i thought it was strange they both had weird names lol! guess i shouldnt be talking.. lol!

Rhett is his real name and Link is short for Lincoln.
