Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!
7 years ago, Rhett and Link uploaded the “Epic Rap Battle!” video to Youtube.
So in honor of that video, I decided to show you some pictures that I took in North Carolina recently.
Me and Heather (YogaGhost) met at my hotel and made our way to our first stop.
Fuquay Varina.
I was glad that Heather was with me, because not only did she know where each location was, but it was also great to visit these places with another Mythical Beast!
Located in Fuquay Varina is Rhett and Link’s second studio.
This was a special place for me, because behind those windows started Good Morning Chia Lincoln, which then obviously led to Good Mythical Morning.
You may also recognize the interior of the studio not only from GMCL, but also from videos like T-Shirt War 2 and 2 Guys 600 Pillows (Backwards). And Rhett and Link showed us around in the new studio, right when they moved in!
But the exterior plays a role in some videos as well. Right across from the studio itself was the alleyway in which they filmed the Epic Rap Battle! video. I guess you now know, why I wanted to upload this blog today ;)
The same alleyway was also used in the first mythical shoe video. AMAZING BACON FLOPS!
The outro for the video was filmed on the other side of the street, across from the alleyway. (In front of that “Elmo’s” sign)
We also found the building, which was used in one of Link’s scenes as the background. It was amazing to see that they weren’t afraid to film right next to the street. I’m wondering how many people stopped to watch what they were doing back then.
Right next to the studio in Fuquay Varina was also a location, which they used for a vlog. It’s the place from the “Fancy Pants Vlog", in which they showed us their new camera. I took a picture of Rhett’s favorite wall.
The next location in Fuquay Varina was Rhett’s old house! We didn’t stop by and knocked on the door or anything, but since he showed us his house on Google Maps, we wanted to see it in person. It was also interesting to see how close to the studio Rhett lived.
After that we stopped at Harnett Central High School. I hoped that there would be a way for us to see the classroom in which they filmed the GMM episodes, but in the end, it’s just a classroom, so not worth getting in any trouble for it.
We then drove to the Buies Creek Elementary School.
THE place.
We spent a lot of time there, taking different pictures and thinking/talking about how thankful we are that Rhett and Link met there as kids.
The last stop on our list was Lillington!
Even though I had spent the last 5 days before our "mythical day" in Lillington, I hadn’t visited any places there on my own. But I did drive by the Lillington sign a couple of times before.
And also down the 421...it was nice that that road had four lanes, now that I think about it…
In Lillington we visited the very first studio Rhett and Link had. It was the studio, which is know from their RhettandLinkast days. You can also see it in T-shirt War 1 and in a couple of vlogs (like Unusual Beast!!) or the Viral Boom videos.
The thing that I was most excited about to see, was the roof from which they jumped in the “2 Guys 600 Pillows” video. I found it also interesting that they must’ve filmed that video, while they were still moving from one location to the other, since they used both.
At last we made our way to the Lillington sign. This was featured in the intro of their little series called "The Lillingtonians" and it looked very nice!
Another thing that we noticed was a set of train tracks right behind the Lillington sign. We have the suspicion that a certain mythical shoe video “Invisible Train” was probably filmed there.
Thank you for reading this! :)

No, Gumbo. lol
I put my hand on the wall, and that was magical enough. :)
This is amazing!! What an amazing thing to have the chance to do! Thank you so much for sharing these amazing pictures and I loved comparing the side by sides from the vids to the pics you took!
Nicely done. Thanks for the tour.
I notice that there appear to be several bricks missing or chipped out of "Rhett's Favorite Wall" - - - did you two also take home a souvenir?
Best alley I've ever been to! lol It's a lot smaller than it looks on camera! And it was slightly overcast, just like in the video when we saw it! That was great to see!
I loved the way you wrote this up! I'm just taking all of it in because spending that day visiting all those mythical places and hanging out with you was one of the best days I've ever had. It's fantastic to meet another mythical beast, especially one from another country! Seeing every place was so surreal, but so great! (I freaked out a little when I saw the Kast studio.) That Lillington sign is gorgeous. I think everyone needs to see that.
Also, you drive over the Cape Fear River to get to the Kast studio and the sign. Campbell University is right there in Lillington, so you can't miss it! We drove through campus to get in and out of town many times.
I like to believe that we were touched by mythicality that day, and we carry that with us every day. :)
Very comprehensive! Thanks for the interesting read. I especially enjoyed the recreation of the Fancy Pants Vlog wall shot, which comes from my favorite part of one of my favorite Rhett & Link videos.
