There's an easier way to do it than braiding it, and it ends up looking closer to what Usagi's hair actually looks like. Its how I put my hair in odango (although I sorta cheat because I don't have extensions ^.^; )
1. Put your hair into pigtails. Not the ones that hang down by people's necks, or the weird ones that people like to put right in the middle of their heads, but the normal ones towards the top. You know that part where your skull starts to curve? That's the part they should go at.
2. Starting with your left pigtail, twist the tail so that it forms a rope-ish thing. You should twist it counter-clock wise, or going towards the back of your head. Also, make sure that all of the strands of hair are twisted tightly, else you'll run into problems later.
3. After its all twisted, tie it into a knot up at the top. Try to cover as much of the original hair tie as possible. This not only makes it look better, but assures you get it as close to your head as possible.
4. Take what's left comming out of the knot and wrap it around the knot, forming the ball shape. Put another hair tie around this bun. It should stay, and if not, try to re-arrange where the end of your hair ends up so that it is closer to your head. Once you have the hair tie securely in place, the bun itself should cover it up.
5. Repeat with the other side of your hair, making sure to twist it towards the back of your head.
furoshikici cloth = 45 cm by 45cm
Part your hair directly down the center.
Take the first two hair ties, and pull each side into pigtails high on top of your head.
Here's the tricky part. Take the right pigtail and twist it counterclockwise about 2 or 3 times, or until it is a nice and tight. Or you can first take the left pigtail, twisting it clockwise. Whichever you choose, it should be twisting inwards, towards the forehead and center parting.
With one hand, place the thumb and index finger underneath the twisted pigtail.
With the other hand, pull the pigtail up, behind, and around over the hair tie.
Using your thumb and index finger, grab hold of the twisted pigtail.
Pull hair through the created loop, and into a knot.
With one hand, tighten the knot while the other hand guides the hair around, creating a rounded odango shape.
Place a hair tie behind the odango, tightly, to keep the knot from coming out.
Repeat process with the other pigtail, twisting in the opposite direction from the first, as stated in step 3. This way, both meatballs are symmetrical.
- If you want to, make a fringe with a curl at the end, for a more Usagi look.
- You can add extra bits on. Sailor Moon has a tiara and odango hair jewels.
- Your hair does not have to be blonde for this.
- Be careful about making it too tight; this style will pull on your hair.
- When wearing this in public, whether cosplay or not, you'll be sure to gather a bit of attention!
Things You'll Need
- Hair that is, at the very least, chin-length.
- A brush and/or a comb.
- Four thin hair ties, preferably close to the color of your hair.
- Plenty of patience and practice.
Here are some ways you can show your love to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon!
Visit lots of Sailor moon websites. There are tons of them all over the web. Some good ones are the Sailor Senshi Page, Manga Style, and the Oracle. Search these on Google.
- Go to http://www.sailormooncenter.net/?id=smcdirect and watch the anime. Or, search for them on Youtube. Sadly, the DVDs aren't available in America anymore.
- The manga is also out of print. But there are sites that have scans of the manga. Neo Nobility is a great one, they have scans of all 52 acts of the English manga.
Be creative! Make Sailor Moon crafts, fan art, and fan fiction. You can find crafts all of the net. There is a really good craft site listed in the sources section.
Play Sailor Moon video games at www.sailorvgame.org or www.sailorgames.org
Start a Sailor Moon website if you have time to keep it up. Make sure that you have read most of the manga or seen most of the anime. Your information should be accurate and content should be original.
Tell your friends about Sailor Moon! Email them the first couple episodes and if they like it, you could host weekly slumber parties where you watch a marathon and role play!
- While Sailor Moon is really cool, and TOTALLY fun to role play, make sure that what you're doing is only for the good of the show. Don't try to completely change yourself to be just like Sailor Moon. Be yourself!
- Some places to find cheap Sailor Moon merchandise are places with Chinatowns such as New York and San Francisco. Try to find a gift store away from the main thoroughfares, as these will be cheaper.
- True Moonies live up to the name! They believe in Love and Justice, in friendship and in themselves! So let your attitude show that. Someone who is mean to others can't be a real Moonie. Strive everyday to be a better person.

Basically, meatballs are just two pigtails tied into knots. The trick is twisting those pigtails before tying those knots to ensure rounded, rather than retarded, odango atama.
- one brush
- four rubber band-y hair ties
- plenty of patience and practice
1) part your hair down the middle of your head
2) using two of the hair ties, pull each side of hair up into pigtails (You should now temporarily look similar to Baby Spice. AAAAAAAHHH!!!!! It's Sailormoon NOT Baby Spice! SAILORMOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!)
3) for right side of head, twist pigtail around in counterclockwise direction about two to three times (for left side, twist clockwise); whichever pigtail you choose to do first, you should be twisting each one inward towards the center of your head
4) with one hand, place thumb and index finger underneath twisted pigtail
5) with other hand, pull pigtail up, behind and around over the hair tie (If that just totally confused you....... then look at the picture. I have no idea how else to word that.)
6) using thumb and index finger, grab hold of twisted pigtail
7) pull hair through into a knot
8) with one hand tighten knot while other hand guides hair around, creating rounded odango shape
9) place a hair tie behind odango, keeping the knot from coming out (You'd be amazed at how many people don't realize there's a hair tie back there. They actually think that those knots stay in by themselves!)
10) repeat process with other pigtail, twisting in opposite direction from the first; this way both meatballs are symmetrical
11) Shout 'Moon Crystal Power Make-up!' and run around the house chasing your little brother with a dust buster.
