A lot of you guys have made really good arguments. There are some that think a Season 2 may be on the way (like Rose E Sheckler (Cinderelephant)) and there some that disagree that a Season 2 of The Mythical Show will be on the way. (Like Bandler Churns (Phoenixiecorn)). The question still hangs over our heads of whether or not there will be a Season 2. Also like Handled Churns (Phoenixiecorn) said, we should comment on Link's profile about his thoughts. Also, I think it would be good to tweet at Rhett and Link to get their opinion about what they think is in the future for TMS. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this, due to the wonderful arguments made by my fellow Beasts.
I have mixed feelings... those are good arguments in favor of a second season, but I'd hate to miss that much GMM while they are preparing for it! I know it would be awesome, but I'm not so good at delayed gratification.
I'd like to point out, if I may, that not all the segments were filmed the exact week that they were aired. They released the short commercial for TMS with Goorgen ten days before the first episode aired. If I had to guess, I'd say the probably had quite a bit of the show written (or at least most of the concepts down) long before the first episode aired. Granted, a lot of the content probably was recorded within the same week. But things like Forest Patrol had probably been recorded in advance and handed off to whoever might be helping. They had partnered with other companies (such as Digital Twigs for the intro) and had hired in some temporary employees and/or interns to help with the large scale production of TMS.
I have to agree with Rose, they probably learned a lot about how to produce the large amount of content needed each week. About the views per episode being relatively low, R&L really didn't do a whole lot of advertising for TMS. If I remember correctly, Rhett pointed this out in one of the Komm exclusive videos. But don't quote me one that one.
Personally, I think there's probably a decent chance of TMS returning for a second season. I think that segments like the Middle School Musicals and Forest Patrol make a second season more likely. Though if there will be a second season, it's likely that there will be a relatively long break between GMM and TMS like there was before.
I have to disagree that a new season of The Mythical Show would be unlikely. First of all, other YouTubers are not too busy to help each other out, especially when it means more exposure for them. YouTube is their job after all. Rhett and Link also probably have a pretty good idea of how many segments they need per show, and while it's probably not the easiest thing in the world to come up with a bunch of new sketches, they are very creative, they have a lot of types of things they can do, and they have a lot of people helping them to get it done. Plus I think it will be a bit less stressful the second time around because they have a better idea of what they're doing.
As for the argument that it wasn't successful enough, first of all they were already expecting low view count because of the length of the show and they averaged over 260,000 views per show which isn't bad. But you're entirely forgetting about their main channel. Those 12 episodes of The Mythical Show produced 29 new video segments for their main channel which have gotten a combined 26.4 million views. Nine of those were songs which means iTunes sales as well, and they sold a bunch of signed posters at $20 each as well as Mythical Show t-shirts. One of those videos, the "Cracked Chiropractor" commercial, ranks 7th as most popular video on their main channel with 6.7 million views, and another commercial, "Shift-It", had its star, Goorgen, appearing on TV shows and all over the internet. Add to all this that The Mythical Show has been nominated for two International Academy of Web Television awards, Best Variety Show and Best Host of a Pre-Recorded Show (we'll be finding out in just a couple of hours if they won or not), and I think that The Mythical Show was pretty darn successful indeed. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't do a second season. A lot of hard work? Definitely. Worth the payoff? When you consider that this is their career and they're always looking for ways to up their game, you can bet I'm expecting a season 2.
Plus, it was a segment from The Mythical Show, "Clown Shark", that brought me to Rhett and Link, and I know I'm not the only new Mythical Beast they got because of it. OK, rant over. Thank you for your time. :)
I LOVE THIS SHOW I HAVE NO IDEA WHY I'M TALKING IN ALL CAPS.
I would love more than anything to see season 2 of The Mythical Show. But I don't think it's going to happen. :( Given the huge amount of work that obviously went into it, I don't think it was successful enough to return the investment (just based on the views).
I'd love for them to bring some TMS material back to GMM (like the time Rabbit Lightning hosted) or as shorter videos on the main channel.
