In Feb-2009, during a trip to a bible conference in North Carolia, we found this great little spot - - - The House of Mugs.

 

 

Nobody lives in the house permenantly. This is a tiny two-room (not counting the outhouse) weekend and vacation cabin on a dirt and gravel road along the Johns River in the Blueridge Mountains near the community of Collettsville, NC (just a few miles outside of Lenoir, NC).  On the front porch is a visitor's log and short bio telling the history of the house.  Guests leave a new or used mug or two in the basket, and eventually the owner will find a place to drive another nail and add to the collection. No telling how many hundreds (thousands?) of mugs there are covering every inch of the house (both inside and out), barn and fences. 

 

There are a number of online mentions of this little place if you search for "wierd and unusual roadside places to visit" in North Carolina.  These are a few of the pictures my wife took on the day we visited. Stop by if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
