Would you rather be On-stage Performer or Back-stage Crew?

Sometimes in life, we feel like we want to be recognised for the efforts we had put into something, as simply as receiving the applause for all the hardwork put into a performance. But you can only get fame when you stand on-stage. There's a price to pay just to stay up there.

But other times, some people prefer to be the quiet worker, who understands that the show will not run if not for what you have been doing. So you'd rather be bossed around and serving other people without being told how much you are appreciated because you believe, that if it were not for you, they wouldn't make it there.

So who would you rather be?

As a stage manager with plenty of acting experience, I have to say I'd prefer to stage manage--because acting doesn't put you through college.

Also, there's an incredible feeling of pride when you realize, as a stage manager, that an entire show is your responsibility. When you take off your headset after a show well-called, you know the applause is for you, too, even if the audience doesn't. :)

Oh, definitely backstage crew. :) I did that throughout high school and college (nearly lost an arm in a revolving set once... well, once a night during the run of the show. Ha!) and it's just what I'm more comfortable with. I enjoy performing too, but there's something to be said for working hard and doing it for the love of helping to put a show on.

My favorite time being a backstage, behind the scenes crew person was when I wrote, directed AND did the scenery shifting for my one act play in high school. Stressful and awesome. And no arms were nearly severed.

I'd want to be the performer, minus the fame, if possible. It messes up to many peoples lives.
