Solve this without references Mythical Beasts.
A fellow encountered a bear in a wasteland. There was nobody else there. Both were frightened and ran away. Fellow to the north, bear to the west. Suddenly the fellow stopped, aimed his gun to the south and shot the bear. What color was the bear?

The fellow ran north and stopped directly at the North Pole, so no matter which direction he turned the gun barrel would be pointing South.
The only problem is: there are no bears (polar or otherwise) living at or ever traveling to the North Pole . . . their far northern range is a few hundred miles south of there.
