Hello Mythical Beasts

Most of you have at some point picked up a camera and fired off a few shots.

Be it on vacation, or out with friends, or maybe just loafing around the house. When you hit that
button, the shutter opens for anywhere between a 1000th of a second and
a 30th of a second, the faster the speed, the sharper the image. If we
extend the shutter speed to say.....30 seconds, we get some interesting
results. Any light that passes in front of the open shutter is absorbed
which makes it great for photographing night scenes and starry nights,
but also great for Light Graffiti.

Making light graffiti is simple all you need is

-A camera (that can take long time exposure pictures)
-A light source (something like a flash light, led lights work the best)
-A tripod or steady surface (optional but recommended)

First setup your camera on the tripod or surface
then, set it to a long exposure time (might be called fireworks or nighttime, experiment until you find it)
hit the button and run in front of the camera and wave the light around like a mad man!

I strongly urge you to experiment with different techniques, such as,
-Striking a pose, turn on flashlight (to light yourself up), turn off flashlight, move, repeat
-Putting the light in a bag or t-shirt for a misty, ghost like effect
-Using sparklers
-Photographing running water, moving people or cars, or if your a pyro, fire.
-Using different colored lights, or colored glass
-But most of all, experiment! have fun with it, if something works well, please share it with the Kommunity.

Here are some examples for inspiration

Alex cool pics. I took pics last July of fireworks. Look at my page in photos and look in page 3 and 4. How do I put then here and take the dates out?
Great shots!
when you reply you can add a photo by clicking on the camera icon,, you just need the URL,
to find that just, find the pic you want to add in you gallery,
click on it,
copy the URL for that and paste it into "insert an existing image" bar after you click the icon.

It worked for me, hope it works for you!

however, i don't know how to remove the dates, sorry, you could try editing it out if you have the program for it (photoshop or something like it).
Here is my picture! I actually took it last night, and then I saw this post.

I wish my camera was cool enough to do this! I've wanted to dabble around with this type of photography for a long time! Very cool shots! My favorite would be the one with just the guitar!

Thanks, That's my Guitar! I took it by putting a light inside of a T-shirt and dragging it out of my guitar, out of all the insomnia activities i do when i can't sleep, light Graffiti is the best, you never know what's going to come out!
Well, There are already some of my pics up there in the main, but i'll submit a few more later tonight, hopfully.
i look forward to seeing them.

Wow... these pictures are just amazing! My favourite is fourth one (shooting laser from your hand). I will give it a try soon. Keep up the good work, Alex! ;)

actually, most of these arn't mine, only the ones that say "Photo By : Alex Dauncey" are mine, also, your pics are awesome!

Shot with Canon 350D 26sec EXP. ISO 100 with flash gun F2.8
Trouble was I went out of focus when sitting and in focus when looking at myself. Will try again soon

This one came out kind of creepy. The subject was a little wiggly, which made her face come out blurry. Otherwise, I think it would have been okay.
