hello my fellow Mythical Beasts!!

I am from Spain and I need your help! I will be applying in a week for a program my government and the US government have to give Spanish Teachers a chance to teach in the US for 3 years, my dilemma is...what State to Choose!!!!!

So far I am liking both Carolinas, they seem pretty ok, so any other suggestions?

What are you looking for? Beach? Mountains? Big cities? The ability to travel to other locations?
What a fun opportunity!
Yes , it is a great opportunity!:-) I will be travelling with my 4 year old daughter, so I need somewhere not very expensive, since I am a single mum and need to spend a little as possible. One thing I look for is that the State doesn't have any potential natural disasters like hurricanes, tornados, etc, lol, I am really scared of those, when I see on TV all this things happening in the US I start rethinking my decission ahaha.

If you like warm places California and Florida are by far the best. If you like skiing or snowboarding go to Colorado or Montana. Places on the East coast have good beaches but get alot of snow sometimes.. It's up to you
Louisiana still retains a great bit of its Spanish heritage (as well as the French/Acadian). My family (Acosta & Montero) migrated to LA as part of the Spanish military settlers from Canary Islands in 1780. Check out these sites:

Oh wow, that's very interesting! Actually One of my friends from Madrid did a research last year abotu his geneology and found out that his ancestor (surname Espino) was in one of teh ships of settlers. I just checked on the first web page and his surname is there, I will send the information to him, he might have family in America!
Could be we're related - - see the geneology listing here which includes my ancestor Antonio Acosta that was on the ship La Victoria. Somehere down the list one of them is married to a Rita Espino.

Here is also another site with several ships registries and I see several Expinos listed.

My family settled in the Valenzuela community on Bayou Lafourche (today known as Plattenville). Somewhere at home I have a book compiled by a professor at Louisiana State University (LSU) in which he transcribed the passenger registry and bills of lading for each of the ships that came from Canary Islands to Louisiana - - it has details of every item each family had in its posession when the ships were loaded, down to pounds of coffee, the amount of cloth fabric and number of sewing needles.

Tennessee is a really nice state. The fall is beautiful, they have great cities to live in or near, and it is far enough from the coast to avoid hurricanes. The carolinas are also beautiful, so you couldn't go wrong there.

How fun that you're going to give your daughter such a neat experience. I can't wait to hear what you decide!
