I have that exact pet peeve! Why do people say that? It's dumb. I always thought people were too lazy to say "couldn't".

That seems like it would take an awful long time to say, for something/one you don't like!

"I would not waste the time to walk across the street and spit on him if his guts were on fire, or even to think about going over there and helping him because I couldn't care less and if I did care I would be helping instead of wasting time talking about not wasting time talking about him!"

When I dislike someone, I don't talk about them. Saves time. XD

couldn't care less - - once knew a person who, if she really disliked someone, would describe the relationship as follows:

"I wouldn't waste the time to walk across the street and spit on him if his gusts were on fire." .
