Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!
Hey fellow Mythical Beast. I've been a Mythical Beast for a very long time (since before Good Morning Chia Lincoln), but just today I've decided to join the Kommunity (a little late, am I?). Well, I wrote an origin story of Night Rhett and Night Link. This is a little preview of what I've written so far. I'm planning on making it much longer, and making sequels. Hope you enjoy what I've written so far!
Adventures of Night Rhett and Night Link: It All Begins!
Written by Andrew Huggins
"Rhett, Rhett! Wake up!" Rhett heard as he woke up. Everything was blurry. He thought to himself, "Now I know how Link feels without his glasses…".
"What are you waking me up for this early for?" Rhett asked as Link stood above him, shaking him hoping that he would wake up. Rhett realized why Link was waking him up right before Link replied.
"The building is on fire! Rhett! Get up!" Link yelled at Rhett as Rhett sat up. Rhett quickly jumped on his feet, and put on a pair of white Mythical Shoes, a pair of dark blue pants, and a very old watch that he bought in an antique shop. He left his white t-shirt, which he fell asleep in, as Link, who was still in his very expensive real cheetah fur bathrobe, opened the hotel room door. What seemed like an entire atmosphere of smoke poured into the room.
Rhett McLaughlin never wanted to stay in the Marriot on their trip to New York. He would of much rather stayed in Element, which was an elegant four star hotel. It wasn't that Rhett hated the Marriot, it's just that Link wanted to go to the Marriot, and he didn't feel like agreeing with Link at the time they were finding a hotel. They were in a bit of a feud. You see, they needed ideas for a brand new super hero video to advertise a new product called The Xenoray, which was an airsoft gun that looks like an alien-style laser gun. Not only did it look like a weapon a Martian would wield, but it also had an option to shoot actual lasers. These lasers weren't like Han Solo's DL-44, but more like a phaser from Star Trek. They shoot out a long laser that took about 30 seconds to go through a 2 inch thick piece of plywood. Rhett and Link thought it was awesome, so their idea for the video advertising the gun would show Rhett and Link, dressed up as super heroes, getting defeated with an alien using The Xenoray. Rhett and Link starting coming up with ideas, and lines like "Hmm… can I have claws like the Wolverine?" turned into "We never agree on anything, we need to spend time apart!". Their time in the hotel room together didn't really go along with their argument, but that doesn't have much to do with the story. Speaking of the story…
Rhett and Link immediately just ran out of the smoky room. They ran down 2 stories, then the fire got much worse. The ceiling, walls, and even parts of the floor were on fire. Link leaned out a fully open window for fresh air.
"Link! Stop! You can get fresh air when we get to the bottom!" Rhett yelled. Link didn't take his head out of the window. "You could fall out!"
For once, Rhett could predict the future correctly.
A large piece of burning ceiling fell down and hit Link. Obviously, it burned. So Link naturally jumped and yelped in pain, but sadly, jumped high enough to fall out of the window. Rhett peered out the window, but in fear that the same thing might happen to him, he ran down the stairs as fast as he possibly could.
As Link fell, he didn't think "Oh, woe is me, I'm going to hit the sidewalk, and make some city cleaner's day…". Instead, he thought of a plan. He only had seconds. He quickly took the robe's waistband off and held it in front of him with both hands. He look down, and aimed for a metal pole with a diameter of about 3 inches that was sticking out of the building. The expensive fur waistband hit the top of the pole, and Link stopped falling. He screamed in pain as he was hanging on the pole by his expensive fur robe's waistband. The pain didn't go away, but he was able to ignore it and think survival.
Link didn't have to think survival for too long, because after about 5 minutes (which probably seemed like hours), a helicopter came up next to Link and saved him. Rhett was already at the bottom of the building and watched the helicopter save Link. The helicopter took Link directly to the hospital, and Rhett was also taken to the hospital, along with everyone else who came out of the building.
Rhett was quickly checked up, and was found to be fine, so he was aloud to leave. He decided to be a good friend and check up on Link, like any good friend should do. After about 10 minutes of asking around, Rhett finally found Link. He was in the hospital drinking orange juice with two temporary casts on both of his arms. The juice was sitting on a tray that was on his lap, and he was using an extra long straw to drink it since he couldn't use his arms. He had the biggest grin on his face.
"What's up with the smile, man?" Rhett said, with a smile of his own.
"Fur! I love fur!" Link replied, and Rhett gave him a weird look.
"Are you okay, Link?" Rhett was concerned that Link did, in fact, hit his head on the ground because of his last comment.
"Better than ever! The only reason I might sound crazy is because I just discovered the meaning to my life!"
"Okay, well then. Tell me about it," Rhett said with a confused look on his face as he sat down in a white chair next to Link.
Link leaned over to Rhett and checked his shoulders to make sure nobody was around. Then he whispered, "I'm going to become a… wait for it…". Rhett waited for a second, "super hero. I'm going to become a super hero."
"Wait, what?" Rhett was surprised, mostly because he's never seen Link act like this before.
"Rhett, as I was hanging on the pole at the Marriot, I had a vision. I saw destruction, anarchy, murder… all being emitted from the burning Marriot hotel," Link said to Rhett.
"You were in an extremely stressful situation. Of course you did," Rhett saw horror in Link's face and knew Link was serious. "Well, tell me what you think the vision means."
"I think that the Marriot is the first of many things to burn. Also, in the dream, a man was talking to me. He was floating around like a spirit. He was telling me that I can stop all of the horrible things to happen, but with the help of a friend," Link said as he smiled at Rhett.
"What does that smile mean?" Rhett quickly realized on his own, "Oh no. I'm not becoming a super hero with you."
"I didn't want you to," Link said, very candid.
"Well, then, okay," Rhett actually felt a little betrayed.
"I wanted Super Rhett to," Link's smile returned.
"Let's discuss this later, I'm going to call Jesse and Christy and tell them I'm alright and that you're alright too," Rhett paused a thought for a second, "for the most part."
"Can I talk to Christy?"
"As long as you don't mention super heros.
"Don't worry, even when we do become super heros, they won't know." Link said as Christy, Link's wife, picked up the phone on the other line.
After Rhett and Link finished telling their wives that they're alright, a nurse walks in.
"Oh hello! I recognize you two from the Internet, Rhett and Link, am I right?" the nurse said with a laugh. Link also laughed, you could tell the two had talked before.
"Yeah, I'm Rhett, and the hurt one's Link."
"And I'm Lois. I already know Link, we talked before you came in, Rhett," Lois said to Rhett. After a silence for a moment, Link spoke up.
"So, what's the news on my injury?" Link asked Lois. He was very nervous.
"I'm very sorry, but Link will need surgery on both of his arms," Lois informed them.
"What can I say, I had to expect it considering what happened." Link said, looking sad and scared.
"We would like to do the surgery as soon as possible, like, right now. The hospital is overloading," the nurse seemed hesitant to say that.
"Okay, sure, um, okay," Link was surprised, but he wanted to get out of the hospital so he agreed to it.
Rhett bid Link farewell and stepped out of the hospital room. He went to find a Burger King, so he hailed a taxi and ask to go to the nearest one. He just wanted to sit down and think about what he just went through. He couldn't believe that they were in a burning building an hour ago. It was only 7 A.M., and he escaped the burning Marriot at about 6:10. Rhett just sat there, wondering how a fire that large could have started. "Somebody must have done it on purpose, but who?" Rhett thought to himself while eating a biscuit. "Does Link's vision have any significance?". He blew both of those thoughts off, for now. He just wanted to enjoy his other biscuit, but we all know that didn't happen. He couldn't stop thinking about the fire and Link's vision. Rhett McLaughlin wanted to be a hero more than anyone else. Not necessarily a super hero, but a hero nonetheless. He figured that he could be a hero by discovering who burned down the building. It could possibly fulfill the man in Link's vision's request.
Even though Rhett put lot's of deep thought into becoming a hero, he knew it wasn't really going to happen. He could dream all he wanted, but actually discovering who did the major crime with no evidence or past in detective work would be nearly impossible without extreme luck. This is when Rhett took the long walk back to the hospital. He decided not to take a cab, so maybe the surgery would be done once he got there. He never asked how long the surgery would take.
When he did arrive at the hospital, and asked about Link Neal, he discovered that his surgery had just ended and that he was back in his room fast asleep. Rhett went up there, sat in the same chair, and stared out the window. He eventually fell asleep in the hospital room. Hours later, he was awakened by Lois.
"So I see you fell asleep in Link's room?" Lois said as she woke him up.
"Oh yeah.. sorry…" Rhett was embarrassed.
"Oh don't apologize, you had no where to stay," Lois was a nice woman, "But Link is better for the most part, he already left the hospital room. I told him I'd wake you up and send you down to the lobby"
"Wow, thanks I guess," Rhett was still embarrassed,"What time is it?"
"It's about noon."
"Thanks."
Rhett walked to the lobby and saw Link reading the O magazine.
