Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

Last weekend's Rhett and Link pilgrimage

First off I'll acknowledge that I am WAAAAAY older than the typical Mythical Beast.  That said, I'm a huge fan of R&L and haven't missed an episode of GMM and even used to regularly watch the RhettandLinKast show before GMCL.  So with that confession behind me I though I'd share a couple photos for this weekend's serendipitous Rhett and Link pilgrimage.

We live in High Point, NC, (Home of Red House Furniture), which is pretty much in the center of the state.  Our adult daughter heard that a candy store named Rocket Fizz, which is located in a suburb of Raleigh, was having a celebration for their one year anniversary and that we should join them and their three kids on a road trip.

The photo at right was taken at Rocket Fizz and captures the moment that our oldest grandson "Smuckers" learned why the suckers in his hand are called "Scorpion Suckers".  This was just one of the 1000+ fun things that we found at the store.

Anyway, after running around town and grabbing lunch, my bride and I decided to find a back road home. We were a few miles out of town when I noticed a sign that said "25 miles to Lillington" and announced that we were taking a side trip.

After explaining the significance of the town I began Googling all the other spots that have been imprinted on my conscience by R&L and we plotted our course from Fuquay Varina to Lillington and on to Buies Creek.

Being into geocaching we were happy to discover a cache at the base of the street clock in Lillington.  It was well hidden so we had to read the hint, which led us right to it.

That was fun, but for the most part I was anxious to get back on the road so we could see what I was most anxious to see...

So this photo is of my happy mug in front of Buies Creek Elementary School, where we all know it all started.  Buies Creek is nothing like I expected, and if we had know we would be dropping by I would have done a little research first to learn what else there was to see.

One bonus sighting was found in a tree in front of an abandoned house, which we of course had to document for our grand kids.  I wonder if this is a local landmark?  If not, it should be!

That's really awesome! Thanks for sharing your adventures going through the old stomping grounds of Rhett and Link!

I went to college in Elon, NC, but didn't become a Mythical Beast until after I graduated. I wish I'd known about R&L back then so I could've visited some of these places a little more easily than I could now.

Unplanned side trips are always the best!  Especially when they involve back roads and small towns.

That's how my wife and I first discovered the HOUSE OF MUGS in your home state.

Here's a small kommunity group you might be interested in . . .  Geocaching
