according to wikipedia they used there used to be a confusion with harpies.  i think the main difference is that sirens are seen as more beautiful and harpies as being ugly (at least in later depictions)

not quite, harpies don't have the alluring voice that sirens do.  there are other differences too.

Question: is a siren the same thing as a harpy?
