My parents bought a TRS-80 back then. We also had the speech synthesizer. I enjoyed writing nasty things and hearing the voice read it back. Pure comedy.
I was brewing beer at the time so I wrote a BASIC program that would tell me how many 12oz or 16oz bottles I would need when I plugged in the number of gallons I was about to make.
