Cipher
You are, beyond all else,
An enigma.
A code that I can’t crack,
A cipher I can’t decipher
And it annoys me.
It’s like an itch I can’t scratch,
A stall door with a broken latch
That swings open every time you sit down to poo
And when you poo the whole world is looking at you.
Oh, I could crack you,
I could take down the wall brick by brick
And leave you naked and exposed
Just like Jericho.
But what good would it be
If you still didn’t love me?
Don’t think that you are mysterious,
We all make that mistake.
But when the layers are peeled back we’re really all the same.
You are looking for love but afraid to show it,
Like a five-year-old’s painting is how you see yourself.
Well I’m not Santa and I’m not an elf,
But I know that when you’re sleeping,
You’re dreaming
Of places far, far away.
And in that land of nod you go to too often it seems
You look for love in all of your dreams.
Yes, I could tear you apart,
Brick by brick.
But what would that accomplish but to leave you with new walls to be built?
And I could crack the code one line at a time,
But wouldn’t it be better if you just said what was on your mind?
I could tear you apart,
But what good would it be
If you still didn’t love me?
