As told by Lilian Brandon (Tachyonic Raven)

------

*Note: Black Bonnet Rose was the full registered name of a friend's purebred Jack Russell Terrier, who was more commonly called Bonnie.

------

The sky was blue, the sun was warm,

One lovely day in May,

And in the grass a pretty lass

In blissful slumber lay.

This lass had eyes of softest brown,

Two perky ears of black,

A brown-black mask on head and tail,

And white fur on her back.

Alas! Her sleep was broken by

A rougish lad in brown

With fluffy tail and beady eyes,

Who scampered o’er the ground.

He crossed her path with cocky ease

And brazen arrogance;

He knew no fear of man or beast,

And gave her not a glance.

But the lass had senses keen

Which told her all that passed;

And instantly she stood and barked –

The lad ran off right fast!

The lass would have him leave for’er

She gave the rogue a chase,

Which ended with him up a tree

And her down at its base.

With nowhere else to go, the lad

Leapt from bough to bough

And left the yard; ‘twas all that her

Fierce barking would allow!

Her task was done, her yard was free,

The lass now felt at ease;

Her grassy spot she found again:

Resumed her sleep in peace.
