Alright, so we have two discussions for the instrumental world. Let's talk about vocal music!!

Anyone in choir? What has been your favorite piece(s) to sing? What is your voice part? Or just singers? What is your ideal style? What has been your favorite song to sing?

For myself, I've sang in choirs since 4th grade. I just finished my 4th/senior year of college (student teaching this fall!), and I sang in my university's Concert Choir all four years and our chamber/madrigal/jazz ensemble for the last three years. Some of my favorite pieces have been: Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms," Robert H. Young's "Contrasts," and David Dickau's "in time of daffodils." I've sang everything from Alto I-II (middle school-sophomore high school) to Soprano I-II (switching b/w the two since junior year of high school), but I really like singing the harmony when I can.

As far as my voice classification goes, I'm a light lyric soprano. I sing mostly classical stuff, though I would like to start dabbling in musical theater, and I sing in a gospel choir at church.

Sooooooo... what about you?

I've been in choirs on and off since 4th grade. I'm hoping to join concert choir at my university if I have time this year. I am definitely an alto. I might be able to pass as a mezzo-soprano, but...that's debatable. :p

My favorite song to sing in choir was a Kyrie. I have no idea who by. Right now, my favorite song to sing alone is Be Thou My Vision. I absolutely love singing old hymns. =]

I really like to sing harmony, and often find myself naturally picking it out in groups or along with my favorite songs.
Sweet! What university are you attending?

I like singing hymns, too. :)
Northwest University. I'd be surprised if you'd heard of it. It's a really small private Christian university up in WA. haha
Choir since 6th grade, about to start college this fall. I've done Alto I and Soprano I and II, but mostly Soprano II. I really started to love choir in high school where I was in the advanced freshmen choir and then in the audition mixed voices Concert Choir. Some of my favorite pieces are A Boy and A Girl by Eric Whitacre and Dear Sarah by James Syler.

I did musical theater once when I was in 8th grade. For some odd reason they gave me a lead role, Golde from Fiddler on the Roof, though when I go back and watch the video I cringe lol.

I also sing at church where I've been a Soprano I (though I'm also the go-to person when other voice parts are missing =P). And of course I sing all the time on my own whenever I can. The style I like singing the most is Christian Hip-Hop.
Like many others here, I've been in a number of different church and school choirs. I usually sing bass or second bass. I was in some a cappella ensemples in high school. In college, I was lead singer in a band for about a month (about the most fun I've had in a single month).

It's been a while since I've sung in any organized music group, unless you count the Sunday congregation. Lately, most of my singing happens in the car or shower.

Just a few months ago, I decided to splurge on a mike and mixing software, so I could finally start recording the song ideas that pop into my head (just in time for a certain 80s-themed CBE, as luck would have it). I've posted a few of my songs on my profile page, if anyone's interested...
I'm a bass/baritone and have sung in choirs throughout my life. In recent years, I have sung improvised songs in live performance as solos, duets, and larger choral situations. I often would rather chant my prayers than recite them. When I was in high school, I sang in a youth choir at church known as the Young Disciples. We would travel to churches in eastern NC and sing at services there. I love musical theater, and must confess that Lloyd Webber is a fave, along with Lerner and Lowe, and Rogers and Hammerstein. Sondheim is also a favorite. I am also fond of a cappella music, too.
Three or four years ago I was in a jazz choir. It was really fun. Now I just sing Soprano in the church choir. I enjoy singing so much, and hearing other people sing.
And I’m well known for always singing when I clean kitchens. I was silently washing dishes at the church Wednesday and my friend Jullie came up and went, "Rachel, why aren't you singing?" I guess it's like my own little tradition or something.
I . Love. Choir!
I've also been singing in choirs since the 4th grade. I'm now a grade 11 student. Let's see.. choir history .. I've been singing in my city's honor choir since grade 4, of course, there was the elementary one, then the junoir high one, and now I'm in the high school one. As well as school choirs. My High school's choir Trebled Youth ( clever name I know ) is completely student run and is a vocal jazz ensemble, and our old director graduated last year so this year and next Trebled Youth will actually be under my direction! I'm super excited for that!
Some favorite pieces are "Embraceable You", "And so it goes", "Sh-Boom", and "Adiemus".
In Honor choir I sing Soprano II , and last year in school choir I sang Alto. I've always been around that range for choir.

That being said too, I love singing soprano... I played Cosette in Les Mis last fall.. and loved it. Yes.. I love musicals as well.. . I've been in 7 musicals in 4 years. It's awesome. I guess you'd say Musical Theatre and Jazz are my big thing.

Favorite choir - Les Choristes. Holy Moses.. not only is it french, but it's beautiful young male voices. mmmmm

I guess that's me!
i've been in at least 2 choirs at a time since i was 7 or 8 (school choir + non-school choir) and have done two professional operas (turindot and MacBeth) with the Vancouver opera company. currently I'm singing bass/baritone in the B.C. boys choir and in my school jazz ensemble. i went to Italy, Holland and France with the BCBC and am going to china and Australia this summer. my favorite songs to sing are locus Iste (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSC5Kjq4aIw) and L., H. and R. "Sermonette"(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy6GCWN70fk) .Fun Fact!! even though my breaking point it the D shape above middle C, i have a very high falsetto (probably because i sang soprano until i was 13 in the boys choir) and i performed the intro to ABBA's Dancing Queen in front of my school (1600 people) in my falsetto (luckily it was well received)
