Okay, so I haven't actually lived in LA since 1996, but was born and bred on the bayou. Ancestry in Louisiana on both Mom and Dad's side go back to the 1780's and the Spanish Isleño settlers from Canary Islands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islenos) with a healthy dose of Cajun French along the way.
You know you're from LA if . . . you know how to pronounce names like Goutreaux, Thibodeaux, Oncale, Carpentier and Herbert Hebert (an actual guy I once knew) . . .
or towns such as Terre aux Boeufs, Natchitoches and Paincourtville
(these are my people - - - > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paincourtville,_Louisiana ).
Home of: Mardi Gras, fais-do-dos, jambalaya, crawfish pie and GUMBO (dat's me).
And in case you were wondering if I'd ever get around to it . . .

I've never been to Louisiana..... But I always wanted to go to hear the music and taste the wonderful food. Or dress up and act like a fool on Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) . I've only had Gumbo once: it was made with rice, polish sausage and lobster and shrimp it was very spicy very tasty. The only thing I didn't like was I found okra floating around hiding in it (so I was tricked into eating okra) Okra = very slimy vegetable. Never trust a vegetable that when cooked is as slimy like snot.
