hey beasts, i'm trying to put together a big mythical meetup in every state (more info here http://rhettandlinkommunity.com/forum/topics/mythicon?xg_source=act...)
we need some beasts from this state to represent :D

Hutchinson!  O_o

Yay! I drive through Hutch fairly often, too, almost moved there a couple years ago. I have a couple good friends in Hutch.

Future Ichabod right here! I think I might move away from Kansas though but, it is a great state to come back to.

Born and raised Kansan here. Northeast Kansas.

Okay, I'm not actually from Kansas (I'm really from Indiana), but I just wanted to say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE Kansas!!! I've been there twice and it's my favorite state I've been to! I'm particularly fond of the western part of it........God's Country! Have any of you been to Monument Rocks? Or Historic Front Street in Dodge City? What about Dorothy's house in Liberal? The giant sunflower painting in Goodland? Those are all cool places........let me know if you've ever been to any of them! :D

I'm from Tacoma, WA but I've lived in Kansas since 1993, when I turned 6. I never really appreciated the state for what it is until I took a road trip from Wichita to Garden City last year for a job interview. It's absolutely beautiful. What should have been a 3 1/2 hour drive turned into an 8+ hour drive on my way back home because there were so many things I wanted to stop at to take a closer look. I got the job out here in western Kansas, and I love making the trip back and forth to Wichita to see family. I always end up taking way longer than I should on my return trip because I get distracted by the beauty around me. I've taken a detour to see the Gyp Hills and got lost, almost ended up in Oklahoma, and then found myself driving through open cattle range land. That trip took 8+ hours as well (one way). There are still many, many places I have yet to see, but some of my regular stops and favorites are Kinsley (home of the bathroom with two toilets, and Midway USA - pic below), Greensburg (home of the largest hand dug well), Spearville (Home of Windmills!), and Ingalls (home of SO. MANY. COWS.). Sure, Garden City smells like a feed yard when the wind blows the right (wrong?) direction, but I love it (and being a zookeeper, I don't really mind the smell of livestock, anyway). This summer I visited Strataca for the first time (underground salt museum in Hutchinson) and I now have an even greater appreciation for the state. I may not agree with the politics here, but the natural wonders, and even the man-made ones (like The Big Pool) make it a great place. Especially hauntingly beautiful to me are the older man-made structures that have been reclaimed by nature.

In addition to being midway between New York City and San Francisco, Kinsley features a sod house museum, a train engine that visitors can go into, a historical barbed wire collection, and a single bathroom that has two toilets, plus many other "only-in-Kansas" displays.
