My personal brief brushes with famous persons have, for the most part, been while traveling . . . which I used to do a great deal of for business years ago.  Here are a few.

  • Early 2000's - - chatted with Evander Holyfield while waiting in line to buy ice cream at Atlanta Hartsfield airport . . . nothing too special, just comments about how long the line was, slow service and "How dare they charge $6.50 for two scoops of vanilla"

  • Around 1996, was on a flight into New Orleans with a first class upgrade and sat across the aisle from James Carville and Mary Matalin and their newborn baby - - - didn't talk much, but I remember James took off his shoes and propped his feet

  • Sometime in the 90's - - - Carrot Top flew into Baton Rouge (my hometown) and was highly enraged when the airline had misdirected two luggage trunks full of props he needed for a show in Lafayette the next night.  He had performed most of his act on the flight, trying to impress the flight attendants.  It was most annoying, very few passangers or crew laughed after the first 20 jokes, but it didn't slow him down . . .

  • Flying from New Orleans into Charlotte, sat next to country comedian Jerry Clower and had a great conversation about nothing in particular.  A very nice man and he never went "into character" until some fans approached him for autographs inside the terminal, which he was happy to oblige.

  • Met Carroll O'Connor and several of the cast and crew while they were filming TV series "In the Heat of the Night" in Hammond, LA where I lived at the time

In the Heat of the Night

For those poor, sad individuals who've never heard of Jerry Clower . . . ENJOY!

Anyone else think of  "Embarrassing Encounters" from GMCL? I kept thinking about Link's Paula Abdul experience :)

My encounters with celebrities have been mostly with musicians. In high school I was really into going to concerts and sometimes I'd get to meet the artists. I've met a few popular Christian artists during that time. Some of the ones that stand out the most in my memory are: Steven Curtis Chapman, (most of) The Newsboys, Kevin Max (formerly of DC Talk), and Red.

My favorite out of that group was Red. Here's a picture I had taken with them when I saw them back in 2006.

Yes, I look terrified... Yes, I was an adult with braces... and yes, I miss having blonde streaks in my hair. Oddly enough, this was around the same time Red had made an appearance in an R&L video. They were in the background during the "How To Sneak Onto the Grammy Red Carpet" video.

They are at 4:09. Rhett comments on their haircuts, lol. XD
