Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!
With the one from the UK, I would have a hard time stirring clockwise, being a southpaw. Would stirring the other way bring bad luck? I hope not.
Not exactly "wierd" on the scale of a pig jaw in the fireplace to keep goblins away, but in South Lousiana . . . especially in the towns of Gramercy-Lutcher-Paulina (St. James Parish). . . the tradition of building and burning a Christmas Eve bonfire along the Mississippi River levees to help guide "Papa Noel" along his route has grown from a family event to full-fledged tourist event.
I feel like a lot of the "spooky" ones must be carry-overs from solstice celebrations, just not as Christianized as decorated trees and candle wreaths (Christmas trees and Advent wreaths respectively) have been.
