EnChroma: Color for the Color Blind

 The EnChroma Story

Don McPherson who has a PhD in glass science, had been working on a special eye glass lens that was ment to protect surgeons when they preform for lazer eye surgery.  He later found out that surgeons have been stealing them and using them for sunglasses, and he thought that could be pretty cool because one of the first things he notice while creating them was that they tend to saturate things and make them very colorful.

One day, he was playing an ultimate Frisbee tournament and he let a friend borrow one of his pairs of glasses and his friend said "Dude.  I can see the cones!"  he was talking about the fluorescent orange cones that defined the field.  Don was a little confused and though to himself those are really bright, how can he not see that?  It turned out that his friend was severely color blind and that he was seeing green and orange for the first time in his life.

The discovery led to a research study.  They found out that his lenses was a beneficial aid to the color blind.  In 2010, Don McPherson who teamed up with Andrew Schmeder who specialized in many fields, co-founded EnChroma, even though they still needed to turn the lenses into a consumer-ready product.

In 2012, they released the very first version of the EnChroma sun-glass lens and ever since, they have been working on different types of frames, and have been working on different types of lenses like indoor lenses.  However the story doesn't stop there, it is only the beginning!
