Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

I just started this discussion because I was curious to hear other people and personalities describe what they know truly to be the Good News.  And also it's good for us to discuss these things with each other so we can somewhat grasp just a glimpse of the knowledge and love of God.

for starters..

what was the purpose of the OT Law?

why did Jesus have to die for our sins?

what was the purpose and fulfillment in Jesus' death and resurrection?

Thanks.

This is always a facinating and benificial topic for dicussion.
I'll try to answer these questions (According to what I believe, some of us will probably have different answers!).
I don't know a whole lot about the purpose of the Old Testament Law, that is something I need to study more....
Jesus died for our sins to save God's children. If God hadn't given His Son as a sacrifice for us, we couldn't go to heaven. Jesus had to die because there had to be a perfect sacrifice to save us. No other human being could do it, because no other human being has ever been perfect.
This is meant to be a quick reference and is by no means exhaustive. I pray that it is used by God.

1. The Mosaic Law teaches that:
- Humanity is sinful. (Romans 5:13; 7:7; 9:31; Galatians 3:19)
- Sin must be judged. (Romans 2: 12; Galatians 3:10; Hebrews 10: 28)
- One may not enter the presence of the Holy God with sin. (Hebrews 5:1-3)
- It is impossible to please God through human effort. (Galatians 2:16)

2. Jesus Christ had to die for our sins because:
- It was the will of God. (Luke 22:42; Acts 2:23)
- Sin demands death. (Romans 6:23; James 1:15)
- He is the only qualified substitute. (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:22; 1 John 3:5)
- Only His blood can wash away sin. (Hebrews 10:4, 14)

3. Jesus Christ died and rose again because:
- He could not remain dead. (John 20:9; Acts 2:24)
- He was then able to give life spiritually dead persons. (Romans 6:4; 1 Peter 1:3)
- Only a living person can be trusted. (1 Corinthians 15:17; Hebrews 7:25)
- To conquer death. (1 Corinthians 15:23, 26)
what was the purpose of the OT Law?
In Galatians 3:24, Scripture tells us that the Old Testament law, or the Mosaic Law, was put in place to be a temporary tutor to lead us to salvation. It was never meant to be a means to salvation. Having a law makes us aware of sin, thus in need of redemption from our fallen state as humans.

why did Jesus have to die for our sins?
Jesus had to die because that's the way God planned it. Man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever (1 Cor. 10:31). God created humans to have a relationship with them. Humans messed up that relationship when Adam and Eve sinned in Eden (Genesis 3). Since God is holy by His nature, He cannot be anywhere near sin. Thus, mankind was removed from the presence of the holy God. To restore this relationship, God had planned all along (Revelation 13:8 refers to the book of life that belonged to the lamb that was slain. It says this book existed before Creation. Thus, God had it planned all along to slay His Son). to send His Son, Jesus Christ to be the perfect sacrifice in order that He might buy back, or redeem, His children. This is the theme of the entire Bible.

what was the purpose and fulfillment in Jesus' death and resurrection?
The purpose of Jesus' death and resurrection was to redeem God's elect children whose names were written in the Lamb's book of life before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8).

that's really good! I like the way you put it. I found these videos on youtube and found them to be extremely informative and insightful, I was amazed after watching these. ( now, everyones probably not going to agree with all of this, but just try to learn from it at least.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9JUqS4Q2A0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHgfKzpGEcQ
