Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

Hey, up until a week or two ago the forum discussion threads were in a tiered/indented format to easily see responses to certain posts. Now they're all flush against the left side, and it's hard to tell if a post is a response to someone unless they specifically quote it.

I was just wondering if this was done on purpose, because I really did like it the other way.

Yeah, I changed it because I was noticing that if someone responded to a post that was on the previous page, it was tough to find it by viewing the latest activity. If you choose the right "Reply to This" link...that is, the indented one just under the comment you want to reply to, that post will be quoted along with your reply and you'll be able to see what it is in response to. The outdented "Reply to This is just the next post in the discussion, not necessarily a response to someone else. Give it a try for a week or so and if you still don't like it, feel free to come back and comment here. And anyone else with an opinion is welcome to chime in! We're all learning our way around this Ning thing as we go!

Thanks for starting this discussion, Tess!
Ah, I see. I can see how that could be an issue with the CBE entries, but otherwise it's been a mildly annoying change.

I'll still give it some time, but before I forget, I'd like to put my two cents in:

-What prompted me to start this thread was the fact that in the CBE Photo Entry Roundup discussion, Jordan Huenink was doing his job and asking certain people to repost or fix their entries, but he didn't do the quotations, just his one-line message. This ended up as a string of posts by him one after the other, some of which were unclear as to who they were in response to.

-I don't like the automatic quote insertion, but that's just me. I think it makes posts unnecessarily long, if you can accomplish the same thing by indenting responses directly after the replied-to post.

Anybody else want to weigh in?
i can see both sides and i think that the indented replys were something we had just gotten used to and now that it has changed it put us on our heels a little bit ... because i do so much looking around and checking and surfing on here im slowly getting used to it but i did like the tabbed replys altho lyns right if someone commented i wouldnt realize it because i always just go to the last page to see the newest most current info so i think its a change for the better once everyone gets used to it. this is HONESTLY just MY two cents tho
If you're following a discussion, you'll receive email whenever there's new activity...not just a comment on your post. That link takes you to the new post, but if the thread is not chronological, it can be very confusing to read. I'm suggesting using quotes and just editing the quoted material to capture the fragment you're responding to. But, I'm gonna ask R&L their preference and invite your comments as well!
Jordan, I seriously wasn't annoyed with you about that, just with the reply structure. The email response thing doesn't appeal to me personally (on Facebook I turn all email notifications off). Besides, I put my old email address in when I signed up, and I'm lucky if I check that account once every other week. I check the Kommunity way more often than that.

Of course the voice of one should never have say for all, but my opinion still stands with tiered discussion threads. :)
We're working on a kind of orientation guide to the Kommunity with tips and tricks and a video tutorial. Maybe that will help. And, Rhett & Link will be weighing in with their preferences on this and any other outstanding issues. So, your voice will be heard, Tess!
