Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

Sometimes I am unable to sleep because I am wondering things that I probably would never know the answers to. For instance:

  1. If my parents never met would I still be a person, but with different parents?
  2. What would everyone do if I just left in the middle of the night with the intent of being like Tarzan and living as a wild person in the jungle?
  3. Can my cats understand what I am saying?
  4. What if there is a tiny village of people living in my carpet as if it were some mystical forest?

And lastly:

        5. Is there another dimension where there are beings similar to us, but different?

Please share your thoughts with the world to give people multiple ponderous sleepless nights.

These are deep. You are clearly a thoughtful guy (girl). Here's my take on these:

1. That depends on what defines a person? Your genes? Your body? Your SOUL? No one knows!

2. They would probably be concerned, set out to find you (possibly with the aid of police), and then re-civilise you.

3. No, they can't. Well, at least not in the same way that we do. Language is a human enterprise, when words are created they are made to match specific things people feel needs a name. A language is pretty much an agreement between people to label a specific object with a verbal sound (then represented by letters). Intelligent animals, which your cat probably is, wouldn't understand the convention in the same way, however, they can learn to associate sounds you make with certain things as sort of a parlour trick. Animals can learn, but much slower than humans. Dogs learn tricks in that way. Infants learn words that way and learn that if they use that sound, certain good (or bad) things will happen to them.

4. Don't step on your carpet ever again! Become their god! However, other people will think you're crazy if you start talking to your carpet...

5. Some scientists actually believe there may be an infinite number of parallel universes in which every probable outcome of the universe has occurred in each. There were some recent observations that scientists believe may be the imprint of an alternate universe on ours. Therefore, if that theory is correct, there exists a universe where you have blue eyes, there exists a universe where you don't exist and there even exists a universe where everyone is a monster.

I like your take on my ponderings! I will keep that in mind the next time these questions surface again.
