Problems with widgets

Hey guys, in my group Se habla español, I'm trying to add a widget into the text box to help automate a Word of the Day feature for the group. I've tried copying and pasting code from here and here, but nothing sticks. I'll paste the code into the box, hit save, but then the box is just blank. Any ideas? I'd rather not have to manually update Word of the Day content on a daily basis....
