Rhett & Link don't animate a lot of stuff, most of their animations are done by Billy Reid, actually. He animates in Adobe Flash - http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/whatisflash/?sdid=FNPCV&;

As for music - They write a song, then produce the accompaniment track (Probably with piano keyboards and loops) and then record the vocals (With a microphone)
how would i be able to make my own animations without a microphone

You don't need a microphone at all for animation (Presuming you don't want original dialog or vocals.)
Doug you've been a really great help! But would I be able to add music and how do i get sounds for my animations?

For sounds, you can either buy sound effects, or just search on Google for whatever you need (Make sure its royalty free!) I recommended "The Freesound Project."
Its user-generated, and royalty free! http://www.freesound.org/

For music, same thing - you can buy/get for free royalty free stuff, synthesize your own, or even record real instruments! (If you know some musicians/willing to spend part of your budget to hire them.)
If your a beginner, I'd suggest making songs out of different loops. (Just search Google for "Royalty Free Music Loops")

Good luck!
