Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!
So I was rewatching episode 373 of gmm and the gmmore for it, and I noticed something that maybe the biggest indicator that I over-analyze and overthink everything I come across. So I decided to share my thoughts on a forum on the internet, as you do, specifically you, the rhettandlinkommunity, I will go through the whole thing, and I will tell you exactly what was going through my mind as it was happening, this might be a long one so brace yourself.
So as you know In this episode, Rhett and Link give their kids a chance to let out all their frustration and aggravation onto their fathers through shooting them continuously with nerf blasters for a few minutes, to hopefully achieve the goal of the feeling of satisfaction and contentment for their children so they stop shooting them with foam darts all the time.
However, when Rhett says "okay that's it, you're done" the kids retaliate and demand more time for them to shoot. "No! that's not it!" they cry, but they don't shoot, as the well-behaved children they are, they stop, their fathers sit down to finish off the daily morning show they do for us, in which this time they have chosen to suffer in exchange for entertainment of both their children and their audience, us, the mythical beasts.
Getting to the point, In Good Mythical More, as he does, Rhett jokingly announces that the reason they did all of this is because they're taking all of their Nerf blasters away. And how does Locke react? "you'll feel sorry!" he yells, as he and Lincoln start aggressively shooting their dads.
"YOU'RE NOT TAKING OUR NERF BLASTERS AWAY!", Says Locke,
"I think you missed the point of the exercise", Replies Link.
Mayhem continues, as the kids yell "GET 'EM!!" and continue shooting, while their fathers desperately try to keep the situation as under control as they can.
(and I do mean desperate, Link even asks Lily to help "control" "these kids" like they're some random kids that came in with these nerf blasters and started shooting out of nowhere and these two men and an 11 year old girl have to somehow control them)
Rhett finally stops them from shooting, and here's the key thing that Locke says that drove me to write this thread:
"Well hey you're not taking ours guns away".
And then I stop and think, Is this a social commentary?
I mean think about it! this whole episode could actually be a social commentary on gun politics in the US. I mean R&L certainly didn't intend it to be that but then Locke came in and turned the whole thing around.
Do Rhett and Link have the authority to impose Nerf Blaster regulations? And, if so, should Rhett and Link do so?
No but really, you could see this whole thing, two guys failing at parenting and getting the point across their children, as the US government and its people and the whole gun control controversy.
Of course, the actual politics behind gun control are a lot more complicated than that I'm sure, It's a lot more than just parents not wanting their kids to shoot them in the balls with nerf darts. I'm not saying that being a parent isn't hard or anything, it's just that running a country where in some states you could legally own a gun is a lot harder to control.
I think that Locke planned this whole thing out, he knew his dad was gonna say that and reacted accordingly, he was trying to send a message to the people out there in vidland. this is his way of speaking his mind and expressing his opinions on the state of the country, someday he will lead a revolution and free the slaves and bring peace to the world I know it.
Anyway, those were my thoughts, now you have some idea of how my brain works, thanks for reading all the way and tell me what you think (please don't take this too seriously).
