I think he usually wears new balance, other times its a grey pair of mythical shoes

Okay cool! I'm wondering what model though. New balance has a lot of models. It's hard to search just by color.

Today's shoes (GMM #885) with Rhett on the right and Link on the left . . .

I searched thru the New Balance official website inventory and could not find anything that looks like it, so most probably an older, out of production model.  Then searched "New Balance shoes metal eyelet" and looked thru the images, this is what I found at the Sneaker Freaker website . . . it's definitely a hiker model, possibly part of that H-710 line, but although several of these are similar I didn't find any that have the 2-tone leather and the nylon webbing, but at least it gives you a starting point.

(personally, I'd just go with the Rasta version if I were you)
