I've got a question
I've seen a lot of comments from GMM season 9 episodes that've complained about the quality of the videos and they're still present in season 10 episodes (even though the season only just started on Monday). They're not really positive and they seem to be bagging on basically everything RandL do ("remember when this show was good", 'you guys are trying too hard", "Rhett and Link have changed too much and I don't like it' etc. (I've seen much worse comments so I just used ones that weren't as flat-out rude)). Also, I've noticed that since the beginning of the year, the show's become a little more... unfiltered. It's not as "family-friendly" as it used to be, I guess.
These comments provoked me to ask this question- has GMM "jumped the shark"?
I don't really think GMM has. Sure, the show's changed a lot since 2012 but I still like it. Still entertaining and I think it will remain that way until the show's end. What are your thoughts?

I think it's undeniable that show has become much more "sterile" over the years. Every episode seems very carefully planned and even (loosely) scripted in places. However, the underpinning of the content is the same: R&L interacting with each other, so I still find it enjoyable.

I feel that they have indeed been gradually becoming slightly less family-friendly, especially in season 9 and the first 3 episodes of season 10, although, in an episode of ear biscuits, they did mention that their content could become more mature as their children grew older. I'm assuming this gradual maturity in content was an intentional and conscious decision made by r&l.
I still enjoy watching gmm because of the interaction they have with one another as well the content of the episodes.
However, I will admit that I miss when they used to just talk and share their input and opinions on certain things or share personal stories with us during gmm itself. They still do that in gmmore (and very occasionally in gmm if their story fits the topic in that specific episode) but recently, they haven't really been doing much of that. Gmmore now seems to be somewhat scripted as well, by which I mean preparing and planning what is to be done/ discussed about beforehand, instead of being more free-flow like it used to be. It still is more laid-back, relaxed and casual than the main episode but they play games, continue with an extension of the main episode or perform experiments, which somehow appeals to me less than them just talking or sharing their personal stories.
It's no doubt hilarious watching them play games, try out experiments etc but I just miss 'story time'.
I'm guessing the change in style of thumbnail, title and content of gmmore was to attract more views and subscribers. I've observed that this change has been quite effective as many gmmore episodes have been gaining about a million views, the average for a gmm episode.
Of course, it's only been 3 episodes since season 10 began so I'm excited to see what's in store for us and whether they'll be answering questions and giving actual advice in the Thursday gmmore episodes like they did in a few episodes in season 9.

I like that it's got a little less family friendly. R&L don't have to filter themselves so much. I'd love to see a more adult version of a daily (or even just a few times a week) show with R&L that combines a more unfiltered version of them with the unscripted feel of the earlier episodes. I guess a bit like their solo episodes on Ear Biscuits. Obviously they're busy with other things now but GMM won't last forever, and I get the feeling they're searching for ways to continue the GMM brand with less of their involvement i.e. seeing how people like the dynamic of the Mythical Crew, although I could be completely wrong.

I agree with you in that they want to keep the brand going but probably don't want to do GMM forever. I don't know how they'd top the success they've had with GMM but I'd be interested in whatever endeavor they pursue (I'm interested in their new show and since I love them so much I'll probably watch at least the first couple of episodes just to see how it is..) At least we'll have lots of seasons to go back and watch. :)

I do agree that GMM has become a little more "scripted" however, it still is funny. Watching Rhett and Link try out different video games and foods, it is fun. Remember, as they said in an old ear biscuit, they wouldn't make something their kids wouldn't be allowed to watch. Yes, it is only 3 episodes in, and if you deem something they did or said inappropriate, that's okay. They make a show that is for everyone to enjoy BYMB :)
