Chat help?

Dear Beasts and Staff,

Hey guys, on my new Windows 8 here and just wondering why the chat doesn't seem to be working. It worked fine on my old PC but I'm technologically impaired. Whenever I sign into chat it displays me as being the only person online or no one online and I cannot see any messages I type. Based on experimentation, no one else can either. I'm wondering if I need to download some kind of flash player to make it work?
