Not sure where you're talking about in Austin, and Marriott has 26 properties in that area according to their website.  The grand new J.W. Marriott flagship property won't open until Feb-2015, so that one is ruled out.

Unfortunately, being both the state capital and home to University of Texas, downtown Austin rarely has many "deals" to be had . . . especially when there is a convention of any size in town.  You might have more luck outside of town and just plan enough time to drive in. But, then again, if you stay downtown so you can walk and don't have to rent a car, the trade off on the higher priced room would be worth it.

I am in Dallas, but have seen several getaway deals on Groupon.com in the Austin area for less than 50% of their regular price . . . https://www.groupon.com/travel/austin/hotels

If you can give more info to pinpoint I may be able to lend some assitance in locating a good place, because I traveled there quite a bit over the years for business.  I usually stayed at a Drury Inn on the south side of town (headed towards San Antonio and away from the airport) and drove to the office downtown . . . against the flow of traffic to avoid the rush hour crowds.

Thanks I guess I was vague lol :) it's the Marriot North on Frontera Blvd.
In Round Rock , Texas ?? I have thought of car rental as well ; but never having been there - I don't know - tough - I'd love to see a bit if the city while we're there - we'll see - going rate there is $109 ...

yep - - Round Rock is actually one of the outlying towns about 20 miles north of downtown.  It's not a very big place and most of the business and hotel properties are right along the I-35.  Booking.com shows 24 listed properties in Round Rock including a Country Inn & Suites which are usually clean and have a good breakfast included

P.S. - - since you are right there, you must pay a visit to http://www.roundrockdonuts.com/ . . . you can thank me later!

Also if you like some really good BBQ then I would be glad to recommend a couple of spots in Austin, but would suggest you take the time to drive about 15 miles south to Lockhart, Texas and go to either http://blacksbbq.com/ (one of the world's greatest hole-in-the-wall joints and my personal favorite) or http://kreuzmarket.com/ which of course has it's own Rhett & Link connection:

and besides, eating BBQ ribs and brisket is a lot easier and considerably less painful than the other Austin-R&L connection that comes to mind . . .

Awesome !!!! Thx : D - have to say I was a bit tempted to get a tattoo there actually lol - looove that episode
