Would you rather: Teleport or fly anywhere in under 10 minutes?

I personally would rather fly anywhere in under 10 minutes. I would get to see more scenery and stuff. Plus just flying in general is fun.

How about you? Would you rather have the ability to teleport anywhere, or have the ability to fly anywhere in under 10 minutes?

Teleporting involves breaking you down into a cascade of atoms. Teleport sounds cool but ewww.
So, yeah,I pick FLYING! I would love to fly like a character from HEROES.
As a child I had flying dreams all the time. I loved it. Couldn't wait to go to sleep at night just to 'fly' over the neighborhood. :)
There is only one answer. FLYING!(Probably because i am interested in aviation and i am a private pilot)
I personally would like flying. Teleporting would be cool too though.
Oooh flying would be soo cool! So I would fly!!
That would totally depend on what I was flying/teleporting away from. Like my children around crazy dinner time? Teleport - very quietly....
I would have to go with Teleporting. Instantly being anywhere at anytime, that would be awesome. You could experience any event around the world instantly.
I still say fly i mean time and space are a continuum meaning teleportation you know where but not when.
Okay, it's 4 a.m. here so sorry if this all sounds crazy but I wanted to mention this. I was thinking about Rhett's "right" answer, and assuming the teleporting we're all talking about is the usual breakdown of your atoms and reassembly of your atoms in another spot.. then simulating flying would be like watching it through a flip book or a video with a terrible frame rate. Assuming your atoms break down, then you'll be seeing nothing for at least .01 seconds, which would be constant and just as often as you actually seeing anything. So not only would this be terribly annoying and dangerous, but couldn't this also cause a seizures in some people? Of course your body wouldn't be there to "seize" but I would think there could be a chance of it. Just something I wanted to mention and see what everyone thought.. To me, flying is still the way to go, as simulated flying would be you together and you in pieces a couple thousand times in a second and would really mess up your eyesight and be hazardous to your health.

Sidenote: You also couldn't feel the wind as you flew, as you wouldn't be moving, just appearing. Taking away a lot of the flying experience, like being on a roller coaster without feeling wind and velocity against you.
Point taken. Here's how I envision the process. I think the default method would be to teleport to a certain point, then free fall at an angle. Of course, this would only happen in the open sky and would be difficult in tighter spaces or near the ground, where I would use the "interpolated teleportation method" that I described on the kast. I was assuming a perfectly fluid disassembly and reassembly, though, which would be much smoother and less dangerous than what you described. In my theory, the teleportation happens so quickly as it's almost unconscious. So, it's more of a mathematical interpretation of teleportation, rather than teleporting in a "traditional", Star Trek sense.

But I'd have to say that the access feature of teleportation, as well as the ability to instantly remove yourself from situations, sends teleportation over the top. I think you could actually change the course of world events significantly if you could teleport. If you could fly, you'd just be a really lucky, really cool, vulnerable super hero.

I see, that makes a lot more sense. The only problem is when free-falling you could easily pass out, then not be able to teleport again and eventually plummet to your death. Teleporting is more versatile, but when it comes down to it you can't really fly using it. If you truly planned on fighting battles against the Joker or the Brotherhood of Evil then yes, teleporting would definitely be more useful and practical, but say you fell in love and wanted to woo the girl of your fancy, would teleporting her places be more awing than flying her up to the sky and looking down at the world as the wind whips through your hair and you hold her in your arms? If you teleport somewhere, you fall to the ground, you're a victim of gravity and at it's command while flying lets you feel free, powerful in a sense.

It seems to me, in the end teleporting is more mechanically useful and more versatile, whereas flying is more aesthetically pleasing, providing an emotional response of wonder and excitement that teleporting just can't offer.

I've been mulling it over for the last week, and I think I'll have to agree with Rhett. Teleportation is the best option, literally just for the access option. If you've seen the movie Jumper then you have to go for teleportation.

I can see your point about taking a girl flying with you Parker, but to refer to the television program Heroes, when Nathan Petrelli takes people flying with him, they end up feeling sick!! Plus Nathan went and got himself killed by Sylar, whereas Hiro (who I know controls the space time continuum, but come on you can count it as teleporting) knacked Sylar in series one!!

This was only ever an arguement because it was decided that one of the extra abilities of flying would be you weren't affected by things in the environment (eg hitting cables, planes, birds, superman). Flying wouldnt have had a cat in hell's chance of even being considered as anything close to teleporting. Even with added abilities flying has been trumped by the access card.
First of all, I only mentioned Heroes as a joke, but you can not consider Hiro's power as teleporting as it's completely different. Rhett's point was you could fly with teleporting and you can't fly by controlling time.

But anyway, yes I already said teleporting is a more useful power, but let's face it it's boring. That was my point, if you want flashy, exciting and "awing" then you should go with flying, if you want usefulness, variety, and a better power to fight other people (who wouldn't have powers anyway) then you should go with teleporting. All I was trying to do is prove that flying is still a capable answer, and that teleporting isn't perfect like Rhett made it sound. And none of us mentioned the fact that you could accidentally teleport into something and die instantly.

I think I mentioned plenty of good points as to why someone might consider flying and wouldn't be stupid for doing so. I would still pick flying, after considering everything it's what I would prefer.

Also you can fly slowly with someone, so they wouldn't get sick. :P
