Let me just say that everyone whose a fan of the mythical show, is amazing! Thursday's are now my favorite day of the week. I actually have something in common with other people. (it's that we all like Rhett and link and the mythical show.) Congrats to all fans and Mythical Beasts. You should consider urself awesome. Because I do.
I'm seriously hoping for a July Holiday Challenge this week! It's one of my favorite segments! (Okay, most of the segments are on my list of favorites.)
I hope there will be. I love GMM and the main channel videos they usually do, but the content they put out during The Mythical Show is different, and in a good way. It's like the intensity of the pressure to make thirty minutes worth of sketches, songs, and other various entertaining segments every week makes their brains percolate and steam and finally produce a delicious cup of cappuccino comedy which we, the Mythical Beasts, can then happily consume and share with our loved ones.
To continue that analogy, Good Mythical Morning would be like regular morning coffee and their main channel videos would be like espresso. And Ear Biscuits would of course be like the biscuits you might consume with a coffee. Like biscotti maybe.
I would love more than anything to see season 2 of The Mythical Show. But I don't think it's going to happen. :( Given the huge amount of work that obviously went into it, I don't think it was successful enough to return the investment (just based on the views).
I'd love for them to bring some TMS material back to GMM (like the time Rabbit Lightning hosted) or as shorter videos on the main channel.
I really wish that it would happen, but I don't see it ever happening. Every week, they have to get in touch with a semi-famous youtuber. That alone is difficult. But then it gets worse. Every week they'd have to make sure that they get one who isn't busy and is able to. Ok. So now that it's extremely difficult, we now have to make several sketches. Write a song. And remember, for every idea, there has to be a consensus on it. So then, they have to decide which sketches stay and which don't if they went on too long. On the other hand if they didn't quite get up to 30 minutes, they would have to put their heads together for another idea or two. So. Next they have to edit it, and upload it. All of this happens weekly. This is obviously almost impossible. Rhett and link have managed to do the impossible for 12 consecutive weeks, and I don't think they would want all that stress again. As much as I LOVE The Mythical Show, I just don't think it's going to happen again.
I have to disagree that a new season of The Mythical Show would be unlikely. First of all, other YouTubers are not too busy to help each other out, especially when it means more exposure for them. YouTube is their job after all. Rhett and Link also probably have a pretty good idea of how many segments they need per show, and while it's probably not the easiest thing in the world to come up with a bunch of new sketches, they are very creative, they have a lot of types of things they can do, and they have a lot of people helping them to get it done. Plus I think it will be a bit less stressful the second time around because they have a better idea of what they're doing.
As for the argument that it wasn't successful enough, first of all they were already expecting low view count because of the length of the show and they averaged over 260,000 views per show which isn't bad. But you're entirely forgetting about their main channel. Those 12 episodes of The Mythical Show produced 29 new video segments for their main channel which have gotten a combined 26.4 million views. Nine of those were songs which means iTunes sales as well, and they sold a bunch of signed posters at $20 each as well as Mythical Show t-shirts. One of those videos, the "Cracked Chiropractor" commercial, ranks 7th as most popular video on their main channel with 6.7 million views, and another commercial, "Shift-It", had its star, Goorgen, appearing on TV shows and all over the internet. Add to all this that The Mythical Show has been nominated for two International Academy of Web Television awards, Best Variety Show and Best Host of a Pre-Recorded Show (we'll be finding out in just a couple of hours if they won or not), and I think that The Mythical Show was pretty darn successful indeed. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't do a second season. A lot of hard work? Definitely. Worth the payoff? When you consider that this is their career and they're always looking for ways to up their game, you can bet I'm expecting a season 2.
Plus, it was a segment from The Mythical Show, "Clown Shark", that brought me to Rhett and Link, and I know I'm not the only new Mythical Beast they got because of it. OK, rant over. Thank you for your time. :)
I'd like to point out, if I may, that not all the segments were filmed the exact week that they were aired. They released the short commercial for TMS with Goorgen ten days before the first episode aired. If I had to guess, I'd say the probably had quite a bit of the show written (or at least most of the concepts down) long before the first episode aired. Granted, a lot of the content probably was recorded within the same week. But things like Forest Patrol had probably been recorded in advance and handed off to whoever might be helping. They had partnered with other companies (such as Digital Twigs for the intro) and had hired in some temporary employees and/or interns to help with the large scale production of TMS.
I have to agree with Rose, they probably learned a lot about how to produce the large amount of content needed each week. About the views per episode being relatively low, R&L really didn't do a whole lot of advertising for TMS. If I remember correctly, Rhett pointed this out in one of the Komm exclusive videos. But don't quote me one that one.
Personally, I think there's probably a decent chance of TMS returning for a second season. I think that segments like the Middle School Musicals and Forest Patrol make a second season more likely. Though if there will be a second season, it's likely that there will be a relatively long break between GMM and TMS like there was before.
I have mixed feelings... those are good arguments in favor of a second season, but I'd hate to miss that much GMM while they are preparing for it! I know it would be awesome, but I'm not so good at delayed gratification.
We need to bring this to Rhett and links attention. Because if we only talk about the possibility, we don't know if they are seeing this thread or not. We need to maybe comment on links profile about mentioning his thoughts on the likeliness of season 2, and what would happen to gmm during that time. It would be cool. I do know that in one of he episodes they said that tms was only experimental. but it worked. So they should make a season 2
A lot of you guys have made really good arguments. There are some that think a Season 2 may be on the way (like Rose E Sheckler (Cinderelephant)) and there some that disagree that a Season 2 of The Mythical Show will be on the way. (Like Bandler Churns (Phoenixiecorn)). The question still hangs over our heads of whether or not there will be a Season 2. Also like Handled Churns (Phoenixiecorn) said, we should comment on Link's profile about his thoughts. Also, I think it would be good to tweet at Rhett and Link to get their opinion about what they think is in the future for TMS. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this, due to the wonderful arguments made by my fellow Beasts.
I remembered another reason why I'd been thinking there wouldn't be a Season 2. On an Ear Biscuits episode, R&L mentioned there would not be any more TMS posters for sale once the existing ones were sold. But maybe that just means there will be a new design for Season 2.
At their panel at the Sundance Film Festival, Rhett said:
"I don't think the Mythical Show is coming back anytime soon because the daily content has worked so much better than the weekly half hour content, for us."
Awww. Now I'm sad. Well, if they do as Rhett said and up the amount of content on their main channel then that would be cool too. I just know that some of my favorite stuff from The Mythical Show never made it to their main channel and that's the kind off stuff I'll miss seeing, things like the game show style segments they did with other YouTubers, crazy segments like Rabbit Lightening writing horrible songs, and my personal favorite, "Crossing Streams".
I think so... Rhett and Link haven't made any new episodes. I almost forgot about FP (don't kill me), and now that I think about it, I think it was successful enough for them to continue with it.
I enjoyed that they had more time to work out all the details and get everything exactly as they like it. GMM is great, but sometimes it feels a little rushed
Alex I totally agree. In fact I got into Rhett and Link because of those shows. Since I have been waiting and waiting. THe 13mins each is nice and all. Bt, I enjoy watching them while I get my kids ready for School by the time i get my oldest up 13mintes are gone. So I end p waiting an entire week just to combine two shows at a time the following week. (Sigh) Since I'm still board after 13mintes I go off and watch other shows to fill the remaining time. I know my opinion does not matter hell they have millions of subscribers. Link often say they do not respond to emails and I have sent them tweets over the past couple of months no reply. So I figured fame has taken over now they're too busy to respond to fans. YOu know what wold be nice . LIve chat hour. Maybe sub one of the video days for an hour of live chat with your fans. So we can ask you questions and stuff. ANother group I watch do that and its awesome to see the replies.
CherryAlease, if you also watch GMMore you'll get more like 20+ minutes a day. :) I agree, though, I'd love to see something like The Mythical Show again.
