Shade was gasping for breath. Her chest felt heavy as she tried to stay above water. She swam as far as she could to get to land and almost passed out.

Draging her wet, soggy, bloody body out of the water, she dropped her head to the sand/rocks, and passed out under the bridge.

"What?" she asked. Then, with wide eyes, looked around. "Where is Hiccup?" she asked. Her voice was now cracked and forced. Her hair rested like a wet mop around her, and she sat up and pulled it all behind her. She needed a haircut. The bangs went well over her ice blue, almost all white eyes. The water from the lake was soaking her shoes, so she pulled them out and took them off.

Peeling herself from the sand, Shade walked the way she thought might be the way home. Nothing but grass land lay as far as she could see. But she didnt care. As long as she was nowhere around the road. Who knows how many black cars were waiting for her there. So she walked on.

Shade was not supprised when he followed her. But she didnt comment. She just walked on, her long, wet hair dripping behind her. The grass under her feet made soft noise as she took her steps, the clouds turned pink and yellow, and the sun was going down. if she was going to get h0me, she would have to walk fast. Her mom would worry. If she wasnt already. Shade picked up her pace and marched on.

Shade walked into her house from saying good bye to Devin, and saw her mom on the phone. "Mom?" she asked not sure what she knew. "'welkomm home hunny," she said. Good. She wasnt on the phone with the police. Shade didnt want to stick out more then what she already had to face: her teacher. Ugh. How much more work would she give her now that she ran from her last class? Shade walked up to her room to change from her soaked clothes. How would she tell her mom? She got kiddnaped and couldnt make it to the last class? NO. She couldnt tell her. She would just have to think she skipped out on it.

Shade jumped in the shower and got in some PJs. Before crawling into bed, she locked the door for good measure. Maybe she could just fall asleep easy. But she knew she couldnt. This was going to be a long night.

Shade awoke the next morning with a stuffed bear sitting on her desk. She quickly got up and walked over to it. "Your name is Hiccup right?" She asked. She had a weird dream about being kidnapped. But when she reached for the bear with her left hand, her arm refused to move. Oh crap. That was no dream. Shade grabbed the bear with her right hand. Then she stuffed it in her back pack and struggled with with the zipper.
"Good morning Shade," said her dad who was sitting at the table with a cup of coffee and last Sunday's paper. "Oh, morning dad," she replied, and grabbed her lunch bag from the table.

im a badger

digs hole and chill in it

Shade plopped down on the bench. She didn't even notice Devon sitting on the other side until the bus rounded the corner and came to a stop. The door slid open and Shade hopped in and took her seat in the back.
